What has given Rooh Afza a sense of attachment is it’s humble yet vibrant design, with sharp fun advertising and old school details on the label that remains unchanged, except a tweak or two.

The iconic label was designed by an artist named Mirza Noor Ahmad. The colourful labels could not be printed in Delhi and so were sent to the Bolton Press of the Parsees of Bombay.

The name RoohAfza is originated from the Persian word “Roof Afza” which means refresher of the soul. Like sipping nostalgia, the rosy red drink reminds one of home, and the afternoons rushed back from school to a cool, refreshing glass with lunch.

Very few things survive the cultural transition between generations, but this once medicinal drink, has lived through the partition, globalization and is a staple for Indian homes till date.

Sometimes gentle, often hard - the soothing rhythm with which it rains on window all night long. The monsoon tinted long drives with grey clouds and endless cups of chai - monsoon is a season of yearning and many moods.

The photographer is a master in street style photography, capturing vivid everyday scenes of the cultural portrait of India. What distincts him from his contemporaries in the 90’s is the vivid use of colour.
