FATHER OF ROBOTICS : ISMAIL AL-JAZARI (1136–1206)

Ismail Al-Jazari was a polymath: a scholar, inventor, mechanical engineer, artisan, artist and mathematician from the Artuqid Dynasty of Jazira in Mesopotamia.'The Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices' is a medieval Arabic book written by Ismail al-Jazari in the 12th century. It describes over fifty mechanical devices and automata, including clocks, water-raising machines, musical automatons, and humanoid robots. Al-Jazari provides detailed instructions for constructing each device and includes anecdotes and historical references. The book had a significant influence on the development of European clockmaking and automata, and it offers insights into daily life and technological innovations in the Islamic world during the medieval period. It's his book that influenced key concepts of modern day robotics

The Qur'an challenge
Can life exist on earth without water?

God has created every living creature from water. Some of them creep on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some walk on four. God creates what He wills for God is surely able to do all things. (24:45)

Water plays a critical role in life since in just about every biochemical reaction that takes place in a living organism depends on it to produce all the necessary ingredients to sustain it. There is no other substance or molecule in the universe capable of interacting with as many of the elements in the periodic table as water to produce hundreds or even thousands of chemicals for life to exist. This is why water is essential and so important for life as we know it to exist.

Let us look at water from a chemical perspective. Water is a relatively simple substance composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, thus the shorthand chemical name H2O. On earth water, which covers about 71% of the Earth’s surface, exists simultaneously in all three forms as a liquid, a solid (ice) and a gas (water vapours). It is this characteristic of water under the physical conditions on Earth that make the existence of life possible here. If water cannot exist in these three states at the same time on a planet life cannot exist. That means the planet is not in a habitable zone for life. It is the only substance that exists naturally in all three states. Water has been found on many of the planets in our solar system but not in all three states simultaneously.

We know all biological processes in organisms on Earth take place in an aqueous environment and the reason that happens because water plays a crucial role in most of these biochemical reactions for processes such as reproduction, cell division, and metabolism to take place.

There is no other substance besides water that these reactions can occur in since many biological chemicals are soluble in water. The question is how did Muhammad, a young man living in the Arabian desert know this 1400 years ago??? He claimed it was a revelation from the Creator of this universe. Well, I don't have any other explanation.

The Qur'an is a living Book, given by a living God to living human beings. Hence, the living should not limit their knowledge of what it says based on what the dead have written, instead, they should strive to renew their understanding of this great Book all the time, using the new tools of knowledge available to them today.
