Where The Tribune (Parbina Rashid) writes on ‘Jump’, a play brought to Chandigarh by ‘Elsewhere’. Written & directed by Maneesh Verma, it was performed by Dilnaz Irani and Sanjay Sonu at Tagore.

Elsewhere was set up two years back in the memory of playwright and author Swadesh Deepak.

September is observed as the Su***de Prevention Month and to mark it, Elsewhere staged Jump, a black comedy, at Tagore Theatre on Friday. The play was an attempt to understand the intricacies and complexities of the suicidal mind.

The stories translated by Jerry Pinto are particularly masterful- if Swadesh Deepak, the writer, grabs your attention, it is partly because of the power of Jerry Pinto, the translator. The translations by Pratik Kanjilal, Nirupama Dutt and Sukant Deepak are also adequate, though they lack the absolute mastery that Jerry Pinto’s translations have.
