🍍Happy International Pineapple Day!🍍

Did you know that the pineapple symbolises hospitality?

Up to the 15th century the only ones who knew about pineapples were South American and Caribbean countries.
After Christopher Columbus and his crew were the first Europeans to eat a pineapple and bring some back to their European homes, other imperial travellers discovered villages who’s natives hung pineapples in front of their entrances to welcome strangers as guests in their homes. From then on, the rare fruit became a symbol of hospitality in Europe, with guests knowing that if there was a pineapple served at the party, it meant that the host went through great effort to create a beautiful event.
As you can tell by my short history lesson, us bartenders who make cocktails have a deep connection with this beautiful fruit- more than just using it for cocktails -because as it symbolises gracious hospitality and selfless hosting it reminds us that before we are bartenders- we are hosts :)
