✨Recipe below 👇✨. Today I finally, finally unpacked my 25 year old Kitchen Aid, (3 years post Aliyah). I knead my own dough but, I’ve been down with a chest cold all week (=No koach to knead). Kitchen Aid to the rescue 🛟 😅. First challah bake post Pesach, challah taken and baked in the merit of many. Shlissel 🔑 challah, rolls and many many loaves. Our home smells amazing. Shabbat shalom. ✨Fig leaf ✨platter step by step. 🚶‍♀️ Start off by picking 👀 a few larger fig leaves. Next up:
📰 Prep your space: lay down newsprint or fabric to work on and protect your surface.
📏Roll out a slab of clay around 1cm thick (using spacer sticks to measure). A little bigger than your leaf.
💚Next use a rubber kidney to compact and smooth the slab.
🍃 Now - take the leaf smooth side ⬆️ and texture/ ribs/ veins ⬇️ against the clay and gently pat in down. Then using a small roller, roll all over the leaf to print it onto the slab.
🔪 Now use a felting knife or scribing tool to slowly cut around the edge of the leaf. 💚 Score through the remnant clay and lift off.
🧽 Use a damp sponge to lightly smooth the leaf edges.
💚 lift into preffered dish/ mold shape to dry…. when 🦴 dry, Bisque fire. Then colour 🎨 with your choice of u/g and or glazes, glaze fire 🔥 and voila

The Seven Species are 7️⃣ agricultural products of the Land of Israel 🇮🇱 . Two grains: wheat 🌾 and barley and 5️⃣ fruits - grapes 🍇 , figs, pomegranates, dates, olives 🫒.
The first “fruits” of these species were given as offerings in Temple times.
I hand 🤚 painted 🎨 these (using underglazes followed by a clear glaze) onto a bisque fired, handmade stoneware ceramic platter (using slab technique). Then fired to 1200c. This one sold. Available to custom order.
