The Jordan River. Upper Galilee. Still waters. Lush trees. A wooden fence guiding us forward. 🌿🇮🇱🌿

Mark Twain visited this land in 1867 and said it was pretty much empty.

“A desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds… a silent mournful expanse… of dreary hills and plains… broken only by the occasional ruin of stone.”
Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad

That was only about 150 years ago.
Let that sink in. 150 years ago.

This was not some thriving kingdom.
It was an economically neglected province of the collapsing Ottoman Empire, administratively part of Greater Syria.

There were small, scattered villages, vast empty areas, swamps, sand, and malaria.

So yes, land was sold by Arabs to Jews.
It was business. In the 1920s, there was a rush to sell land to Jewish buyers.
Arab newspapers of the time openly wrote about it. There was more land available for sale than Jews had money to buy.

To many local owners, it was land with little value and little significance.

Only after Jewish pioneers drained swamps, built farms, planted forests, created towns, and brought modern infrastructure did this land become green, productive, and valuable.

First came the work.
Then came the prosperity.
Then came the “Palestine narrative” you hear today.

Imagine how much sacrifice it took to build this beautiful country.

Riding the train to Jerusalem with David.

Riding the train in Israel is easy comfortable and usually a quick way to get from city to city. This morning we boarded an early train going from Modiin to Jerusalem. It was so refreshing to see green fields again after the winter rains. #

So much for the haters who label Israel a racist state; imagine the level of trust required to appoint a Muslim Commander of the Border Police protecting the only Jewish state. Yes, it’s probably a little overdue but that’s not unjustified considering the history of Israel.

Yasser Al-Hadaya Asadi just made history. The first Arab-Muslim to command a Border Police battalion in Israel. After 34 years of service, he’s now a senior ...
