step down into Paul Inflyte’s In The Basement series with an 11-track mix that runs from 1980s synth-pop to early house and club soul. 🪩

The duo pairs Neil ‘Nail’ Tolliday, one half of Bent, with guitarist, producer and frontman Henry Claude Scott, known for Torn Sail and Brown Fang. A shared love of Japan, Talk Talk, Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys shaped their self-titled debut album, ten tracks of elegant 80s-inspired synth-pop out now on NuNorthern Soul. 🎶

The mix opens with the album’s deceptively upbeat “Seppuku” and closes with “Beyond The Rainy City”, with “Your Latest” arriving late on. In between, Cat Stevens and Pet Shop Boys go back to back before a run of 80s club records from E.S.P., Joyce Sims, Virgo and Sinnamon, plus New Order’s “Confusion”. ⚡️

Fans of turbocharged Italo, it’s time to rejoice – are back. ⚡️

Since 2015, the German/Italian duo of Philipp Lauer and Fabrizio Mammarella – each a serious producer in his own right – have released a handful of sparkling EPs, remixes and one full-length album, while their latest offering, the four-track Megamix EP, is out on October 9 via Mammarella’s own label wrong_era_berlin 🎶

While Black Spuma’s music has always been based around the bright melodies and vintage sonics of Italo disco, the new release features some of their toughest music yet, from the gritty acid of Das Ende and Megamix to the colossal, near-industrial kicks and snares of Glutamania. There’s a measure of respite with the shuffling groove and ecstatic sonics of the closing You Might Be Lonely Up Here, but with all four tracks pushing 130bpm, Megamix is unquestionably as intense as Black Spuma have ever been. ❤️‍🔥

We welcome Oslo duo Trulz&Robin to In The Basement for a guest mix of deep house, minimal and hypnotic electronica. ✨

Key players in the Scandinavian scene for more than two decades, the pair have released albums from 2003’s Kaosmatisk to 2023’s Out of Sync, and co-run Oslo label SnickSnackMusic with Ost & Kjex

Their own “Pipa” and “I Synk” sit alongside Axel Boman, Steve O’Sullivan & Thomas Melchior and a Robag Wruhme remix of Maxim Lany, before Mano Le Tough & DJ Koze lead into an untitled closer from the mysterious [email protected]. 🎶

Nickon_Faith steps up for this ITB guest mix — the Melbourne-based, Manchester-raised producer and DJ whose psychedelic, ethereal soundscapes and emotive high-energy grooves have been turning heads across the global underground since his debut album Circumambient was hailed by Mixmag as a breakthrough release in 2023. ⚡️

Since then he has appeared at Boomtown, El Dorado, and E1 alongside Carl Cox, landed a guest mix on John Digweed’s Transitions, and earned consistent airplay on BBC Radio 1 and Rinse FM. His own label Resonance Spectrum Records and co-run Acid Faith add another dimension to an artist clearly building for the long game. 🙌🏻

His ITB selection reflects that depth — Four Tet’s “Human Voice” opens with characteristic warmth before Barker & Baumecker’s “Nocturnal” on Ostgut Ton and Adam Pits’ “Plateau” add darker textures. Heidi Lawden doesn’t do the polished version of this story. Ask her about the club nights that built her — Blue Note, the Gardening Club, the night she eventually founded, Rulin’, at Ministry of Sound — and she’ll skip the mythology and hand you the truth instead. There was no roadmap, no blueprint, just a teenager with a pair of Technics bought from her first paychecks and a pre-internet scene where lessons were passed person to person or not at all. 🤝

Three decades on, that DIY education still runs through everything she does, from her label Extra Sensory (a Bandcamp-only, pay-what-you-want outlet born out of one too many rejected demos) to the ten-hour-plus solo sets she’s become known for on both sides of the Atlantic. ✨

Now based in LA but still fluent in London’s wonky basslines and UK grime, Heidi tells us about outgrowing the “cool” version of DJing, what she actually misses about the old scene, her b2b chemistry with Lovefingers ahead of their Ibiza date at Akasha Ibiza this Friday, and why she’d rather have one loyal residency than a brand deal. 💙

Last week at Output Belfast , Inflyte's Paul Hamill moderated a panel on how a dance record travels from demo to dance floor, with Helen Sartory ( Beatport ), and Dominic Kerley ( LabelWorx ) and Luke McFarlane ( Material Music )

Here are some key takeaways from the panel:

📬 The demo in the inbox is no longer the only way to get the music out. Artists can now build their own evidence of traction and take control of their own path.
📈 Labels are using DJ support and live reactions to decide which record to lead with.
🔎 Tools like Track ID could turn club moments into data that reaches labels before streaming numbers do.
🤖 On AI, the panel felt audiences still want a human behind the music.
🎶 Data is useful, but human judgement and curation still leads.

Two of the underground’s most respected selectors join forces for this ITB guest mix — Heidi Lawden and Lovefingers , who will also share the decks live at Akasha Ibiza , Ibiza on Friday 9th October as part of the Inflyte, Simon Sheldon and Aidys Tunez four-day weekender. Their parallel careers have quietly shaped the tastes of a generation of DJs and dancers on both sides of the Atlantic. 🎶

L.A.-based Heidi Lawden has been embedded in dance music since her teens in London’s early rave scene, going on to play Panorama Bar, Hï Ibiza, Glastonbury, Public Records, and Horsemeat Disco, with a range that moves fluidly from House and Techno to synth-laden Disco oddities. Lovefingers aka Andrew Hogge, founder of the revered ESP Institute — is the quiet tastemaker’s tastemaker, whose track-per-day archive at lovefingers.org expanded the ears of a generation and whose releases have found their way into the bags of everyone from DJ Harvey and Laurent Garnier to Dixon and the late Andrew Weatherall. ⚡️

Together they weave through William Orbit & Apiento, K-Lone’s remix of Nina’s “Air To Throne,” Lovefingers’ own L.O.V.E. Dub of Pulp’s “Got To Have Love,” and Richard Sen’s remix of Joshua Idehen’s “This Is The Place” in a b2b that feels both effortless and completely unplanned. ✨
