Step back in time and discover the remarkable story of Bonmahon’s copper mining heritage in The Men That Sank Beneath the Sea.

This moving and powerful performance explores the lives of the miners who worked deep beneath the cliffs and sea, risking everything to earn a living. Through story, song, and drama, it shines a light not only on the men who laboured underground but also on the wives, families, and community who shared in their struggles, sacrifices, and resilience.

Set against the backdrop of Bonmahon’s rich mining history, this production brings to life the hopes, hardships, and enduring spirit of a village shaped by the copper mining era. A tribute to the people whose lives were intertwined with the mines, The Men That Sank Beneath the Sea is a heartfelt celebration of local heritage and the generations who called Bonmahon home.

'Last Train From Holyhead' by Bernard Field
Saturday May 9th at 8pm

Last Train from Holyhead, a revival of a play first staged in 2009 with the late great Mick Lally in the lead role. Hawtheatre have chosen to bring it back now in light of recent attention to the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, and the wider history it represents in Ireland’s collective memory.

Two men discover more than they bargained for on an overnight train to nowhere. With the help of drink, poker and a beguiling Gypsy they encounter the truth within through the lives of each other.

TURNAROUND THEATRE
Presents
‘The People That Live in Boxes’ by Les Clarke
This play gives us a glimpse of the lives of Joe and Becca, two long-term rough sleepers who have carved out a fragile existence in cardboard boxes behind a factory. Though homelessness has brought them here by very different paths, the pair have formed a partnership over the years. Joe, thoughtful and guarded, keeps watch over Becca, whose restless energy and fierce attachment to her few possessions hint at the turmoil she carries from the past.
When Jenny, a mature social science student, arrives to conduct research on homelessness, her questions begin to unsettle the precarious balance of their lives. What begins as curiosity quickly exposes difficult truths. The drama increases when Martin stumbles onto the scene after one drink too many, setting an irreversible chain of events into motion.

What a brilliant opening night for ‘Cliffcastle House’ last night. Written and directed by our own James Barry who also designed and built the fantastic set this play held the audience captive until the very end and well deserved the standing ovation it received. Looking forward to another great performance tonight.
