Welcome to my research page on the tradition of the Biddy/Brídeog as practised on 31 January, St Bridget's Eve. I am hoping to source information as to the current status of its practice in Ireland for a research project as part of UCCs Heritage and Folklore course, (information on the course below).I am focusing on the Biddy/Brídeog tradition specifically and not any other traditions like cross making or the Brat Bride etc. Any contributions to this page will be collated to provide an overview of the current status of the tradition and the locations of any remaining practice.
