Quick word from Stef:
"The conga drum is one of the most challenging hand drum coming from Brazil & Cuba. The wide range of sound and shapes can be explored over the course of one evening or several sessions. Each participant receive a conga and will learn how to play the basic sounds of the drum. The session will then move on to study basic rhythms and groove with hopefully, after few session leading to look at polyrhythms from Brazil or Cuba with 3 conga voices and other small percussion such as claves, cowbell, caxixi (small shaker) and cata (piece of wood or bamboo) all supporting of a folkloric song. This journey is one of the most exciting i have been on, it all started 10 years ago and the thrills and friendships this simple drum has brought me is overwhelming. Open and Slap is a beginning and a continuity, the basic words that boils down the secret to make the drum sing, add a few friends and a groovy beat and that's pure joy right there.
