Shorelines Arts Festival Held each September, Shorelines offers a feast of Music, Literature, Film, Theatre, Visual Art, Fami

We started out in 2007 and now in our 13th year, the festival has developed into a premier boutique festival in the Midlands. The festival is a true community project organised by an eight-member local voluntary committee who take pride in seeing the population of Portumna significantly increase in numbers for the duration of the festival. A message from Bernard Phelan.

You Will Die in Prison chronicles the harrowing 222-day ordeal of Bernard Phelan, an Irish/French citizen wrongfully taken hostage in Mashhad, Iran, in October 2022. The film opens with Phelan’s abrupt capture outside the holy Imam Reza shrine, thrusting viewers into his nightmarish experience inside the notorious “Satan’s Block” of Mashhad prison. Through dramatic first-hand accounts and realistic reconstructions, this documentary portrays Phelan’s struggle for survival, his relentless defiance against his captors, and the critical diplomatic efforts that ultimately secured his release on humanitarian grounds in May 2023.
