The origins of our first production ‘Who Will Separate Us’
Who Will Separate Us started life as a twenty-minute monologue play for the Kitty Norton Studio, an ‘unplugged’ night for Moat Club members to showcase new work or work in progress.
Moat Club member Tom Noone was inspired to write the play when he uncovered through family research the intricate details of the lives of his great grandfather Edward Noone and his great grandmother Annie Noone. His research also led him to reveal the lives of Mary Reilly and Colonel de Burgh, the two other characters in the play, who were real people living in Naas and interacting with his grandparents in the early part of the twentieth century.
The play went on to be performed a number of times outside of the Moat Theatre to great acclaim. It has since undergone development including input from Fishamble, the New Play Company. The new version, under the direction of Rachel Lally, will be performed in its spiritual home, the Moat as a preview for a short run in the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
