**Sligo’s Worldly Women**

A fabulous morning in Sligo today facilitating a women's workshop for Sligo Family Resource Centre and Akidwa, supported by Parent Hub Sligo Leitrim.

Women from diverse backgrounds came together to connect with one another, discuss the issues impacting their social inclusion in the community, and look at the ways their realities can be reflected and included in decision-making.

Issues highlighted include, caring and child care responsibilities, lack of employment opportunities, racism, language barriers, lack of cultural understanding, violence against women and a lack of awareness about rights and how to challenge rights violations.

It was a really engaging session and insightful to hear the women's lived experiences, there is lots we can all learn from them.

*You are never to young to support equality*

Donegal can be proud of their young gender equality champions. Over the past 3 months 22 primary schools across Inishowen Donegal with some 450 students participating in the ‘Thinking Equal’ Inishowen Development Partnership and Concern Worldwide project.

Students were introduced to the topic of gender equality and . They Students looked at the local & global reality of gender inequality, the impact of gender stereotypes, how men and women are portrayed in the media. Students were then tasked with creating a new vision for supporting and achieving gender equality.

This is Equality Aware's 3rd year delivering the ‘Thinking Project ‘series to primary schools on behalf of Inishowen Development Partnership. Over the years these projects have introduced children to global development, human rights and social justice. We are proud to have the opportunity to work on such a valuable project.

This video captures the outstanding level of engagement and vision by these young people.

**Making Connections**

Interactive morning with Donegal Travellers Project women's group looking at the Global Goals and how gender equality connects to these goals. A great session with lots of insightful discussion, looking from a global to local viewpoint. Workshop delivered for the Change Makers Donegal project.

Look forward to seeing the group in a few weeks when we look at intersectionality and how diversity impacts how a person and particularly women experience inequality.

**Leave no one behind**

Diversity and social inclusion need to be at the heart of development if we are to achieve the 17 Global goals. Last year Equality Aware had the opportunity to work on two of the funded projects through the NCCWN-Donegal Women's Network WEAR project and Wezeshadada youth and peace residential project.

Both these projects placed equality and inclusion at the heart of their project development and delivering and demonstrated how the UN Sustainable Development Goals can be brought to the local context.

A fabulous end to the Change Makers Donegal 'Thinking People' inter-schools events in Moville.

The level of awareness & empathy shown by students in their 'Leaving & Arriving' posters has been outstanding, they've really engaged and understood the migration topic.

Students in particular have recognised the deep impact conflict and war has on people's lives and why it's so important that as global citizens we support others who may be facing challenging circumstances.

While they also reflected on their own connections to migration researching their own family experiences of moving to other countries and the reasons for this move.

It's really has been a pleasure to facilitate and deliver this unique primary schools programme over the past few months.

‪Day 2 of the Change Makers Donegal, Concern Worldwide funded 'Thinking People' inter-school events. Such amazing 'Leaving & Arriving' themed posters created by the students from the Carndonagh area looking at the circumstances people are forced to leave their homes and find safety in a new place.

While also discovering their own connections to migration through their family and friends and recognising the importance ensuing people newly arriving in our community are of treated with respect and kindness.

We are so proud of all the students, today they really showed we are all global citizens. ‬
