Did you know, the lapwing was chosen as our national bird in 1990 by a committee of the Irish Wildlife Conservancy, symbolising Ireland's respect for its diverse avian life!

Pine Marten - an agile climber, the protected pine marten is crucial in keeping the population of grey squirrel in check, but keeping friendly with our native smaller red squirrel, which has done for thousands of years.

You can view this print at my exhibition showing for the next few weeks.

Going to the Lough in Cork City to feed the colourful array of ducks and geese, was always a treat as a kid. A peaceful place to watch birds or go for a stroll, or listen to stories of the pike lurking in the water; there was always something new to wonder at. Like the pair of Black Swan, gracefully swimming in the water, they added a magical touch of unseen far away places and the exotic.

You can see this print, part of my exhibition . Prints can be ordered via or you can DM here.

Irish Red Setter - forever imagined as a symbol of Irish Identity, the Irish red setter was favoured by the gentry for it's intelligence and lightness of frame over bog as a gun dog. Many Irish people will remember the red setter as the logo for and role in the branding of Bus Eireann, established in 1987.

The Irish nationalist politician, Charles Stewart Parnell was said to have asked for his setter 'Grouse' to be with him near his death bed as his beloved held him in her arms.

In recent popular culture, a brave red setter called 'Kojak' starred in Stephen King's novel, 'The Stand' and the lonely 'Chauncey' owned by Duck Phillips in Mad Men was set free to be never heard of again.

Also used as a therapeutic dog in health settings, it is said: You'll always feel better, for having met a red setter! (I made that phrase up, but it is really true)😃

A Safe Harbour for Ships

Not many people know the translation of the Latin motto on the Cork coat of arms - a bit like our national anthem 😁 'Statio Bene Fide Carinis' means 'A Safe Harbour for Ships' in case you didn't know! The towers represent the old norman towers which guarded the Eastern side of the city, which were located on the present day Castle Street.

Pre-Order prints available - link in bio.
