At LOT100 we have always been big fans of the incredibly dynamic and delighful work of Richard Gorman. We are delighted to have two beautiful Richard Gorman limited edition prints in our upcoming Spring Art Sale: ‘Slide’ and ‘One’. Both pieces, typical of Gorman’s abstract style, are joyful, playful, enigmatic and very collectable. Gorman was very much of the opinion that abstract art would hold its rewards for those who were prepared to let form, line, colour and space give shape to feelings, tensions and the possibility of emotional understandings.
A gifted colourist, Richard Gorman RHA was best known for his paintings and works on paper exploring the dynamic interplay between geometric irregular forms. Infused with a sense of joy vibrance and vitality, his delightful offbeat shapes appear mobile – as if suspended in mid air or or colliding with each other
Born in Dublin, Gorman studied at Trinity College and Dun Laoghaire School of Art, where he graduated in Fine Art. He later moved to Paris to study lithography and etching. Frequent and extended visits to Japan and Milan have notably influenced his working methods and materials. Richard Gorman was elected RHA at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2005, and has won numerous awards including the Palette d’Or at the 1986 Festival International de Peinture. His work is featured in collections such as the Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Crawford Art Gallery, the Civic Offices Dublin, and AIB Bank among others
Gorman sadly passed away earlier this year; a great loss to the art world, however he leaves a wonderful legacy of the possibilities of surprise and delight through the sheer and considered joy of his work.
