Barbara Knežević: Gvozdene Kapije | The Iron Gates

Gvozdene Kapije | The Iron Gates brings together film and sculpture by artist Barbara Knežević, whose practice explores the politics of origin stories, material culture and the ways objects become entangled in narratives of identity, migration and nationhood. In this project, Knežević locates her diasporic Yugoslav heritage explicitly within her work for the first time, placing personal and family histories alongside the wider historical and geopolitical narratives of the Danube and the Balkans.

The Rain Tells Us Everything - Catherine McDonald, Katie Nolan and Niamh Schmidtke.

Curated by Clara McSweeney.

The Rain Tells Us Everything investigates occurrences that are encroaching on landscapes due to the climate crisis. Through trespassing, tracking and collective singing, these artists question these changes through sound, film, fabric and drawing.

Whether it is the invasion of Ireland’s data storage industry on land that was previously fruit farms, wild lands or forestry; tracing the movement of salt as a catalyst for disruption in freshwater systems from the Arctic to the Philippines; or collectively protesting bauxite waste into the Shannon Estuary through active song, the artists reflect on and respond to the unfolding conditions of the Anthropocene.

Cathal McGinley - Scattered at the Edges

Scattered at the Edges is a body of work by Donegal artist Cathal McGinley, created on his homeplace of Inishbofin, overlooking Oileán Dúiche.

Through painting, drawing and assemblage, McGinley combines shoreline materials with made elements, embedding the island’s trace into each work, shaped by walking and observing the Atlantic landscape.

Once a monastic settlement, Oileán Dúiche carries a history of isolation at the edge of habitation. That remoteness informs the work: when life is reduced to essentials, awareness sharpens and imagination emerges. Through this approach, McGinley explores endurance and belonging, creating work that feels elusive yet deeply rooted in place.
