It was a privilege to be part of such a strong team working on this project. And the trips were amazing, tge engagement, the diverse range of participants, the energy!!! Loved it!

Thank you to all who joined us on our second coach excursion to the holy wells in Old Leighlin and Barragh Barragh Church and Cranavane Well today. Delighted to have the support and interest from Jennifer Murnane O Connor TD Minister of State at the Department of Health for our 'Creative Carlow's Holy Wells- Life Springs Eternal' project funded by CreativeIrl in partnership with the Carlow Arts Office Carlow County Council. Great feedback to both excursions and we look forward to doing similar excursions in 2026 as the wellbeing research on engaging with heritage continues. Massive thanks to our friends in Tinryland Community Hub for being perfect hosts to the group. Photo of some of the group participants involved in this wellbeing research project today. It was a special ending to my two-year residency in Eir Òg lounge where we launched "The Accidental Author" to a full house. The energy and atmosphere felt like magic. Many thanks to Take A Part Carlow, Carlow Arts Office, Carlow Youthreach, the arts action group, councillors, community members, writers and artists for such an amazing evening. Thanks also to Duane Ayers for providing music and Joe Clere for sound. It's been such a privilege to work alongside so many excellent people and I'll take the memories and lessons with me.

Carlow Heritage Office in partnership with Carlow Arts Office , is in the second year of a multi-annual project called Creative Carlow’s Holy Wells – Life Springs Eternal, funded by Creative Ireland. The inter-generational project has researched and visited a selection of Holy Wells in County Carlow in 2024 and the videography will be released in the coming weeks of September.

As part of this year’s project, we are working towards the development of a suitable metric to see how we can demonstrate the role that engaging with heritage can have on people’s wellbeing in County Carlow. We are inviting the public to register to attend a FREE coach tour to visit the Holy Wells of St. Laserians (Old Leighlin) and Cranavane (Kildavin) with a bite of food in between. The coach tours will take place on Saturday 27 September and Saturday 4 October (repeat tour, so only need to sign-up to attend once). As this is an intergenerational event, we encourage families to join us on the coach tour. Aisling O’Connor (Psychologist/ Counsellor) will be engaging with those present about their wellbeing and encouraging people to undertake/ get involved a simple questionnaire to assess their wellbeing during the day. (As this is a wellbeing exercise, we will be asking people to switch off the phones, limit the photos and engage with the Holy Well in its landscape setting).

Clifton Redmond (Poet) has produced a series of poems about the first phase of the project, you’ll get a taste though the videos. We will be publishing the series of poems that track the development of the project and the heritage of the Holy Wells in 2026.
This project is an action of the County Carlow Heritage Plan (2024-2029) - keep an eye on our socials for registration details - registration will open soon!
