Shared Island: Cross Border Collaboration

This morning we were delighted have a panel exploring the creative and cultural connections across the island of Ireland through the lens of the screen industry.

It looked at the opportunities, challenges, and future potential for deeper collaboration between artists, producers, funders, and institutions North and South.

🗣️Joined by a remarkable group of speakers who are each playing an important role in shaping that shared cultural space:

- Marilyn Gaughan-Redden, Galway Culture Company (Moderator)
- Proinsias Ní Ghráinne, Commissioning Editor, TG4
- Macdara Kelleher, Wild Atlantic Pictures
- Trevor Birney, Fine Point Films (Northern Ireland)
- Áine Walsh, Northern Ireland Screen
- Coleman Farrell, Head of Skills Development, Screen Ireland

As we come together in Galway, this conversation offers a timely opportunity to reflect on the progress already made in building shared cultural narratives, and to consider what further steps can be taken to strengthen creative ties across borders. 🤝💚

‘The Air We Share’ artists will premiere their work at this year's Westside Arts Festival!

Following their selection last November, the commissioned artists – Christopher Steenson, Leon Butler, and A Place of Their Own (Paula McCloskey and Sam Vardy) – have spent the past eight months developing innovative and collaborative works in close engagement with the Westside community and scientific partners.

Head to this year's Westside Arts Festival (8 - 12 July) to see these innovative works!

The Air We Share programme supports artists to work with local communities and creatively respond to scientific research on air quality and climate, conducted by local citizens and climate scientists from the University of Galway.

Today we were delighted to support the 55th
Travel and Tourism Research Association Conference, which took place at The Galmont Hotel & Spa from June 24th –26th.

This international event brought together academics, industry leaders, and tourism professionals to explore the future of global travel and tourism.

As Galway is a UNESCO City of Film and a hub of creativity, we were proud to have been a part of a local expert panel on Film Tourism - a growing niche that explores how screen stories inspire real-world travel.

The panel was moderated by our CEO Marilyn Gaughan Reddan and featured insights and wonderful discussions from:

Tomás Ó Síocháin Údarás na Gaeltachta
Heather Higgins Galway Film Fleadh and Éiru Films
Gar O’Brien-Collins
Miriam Kennedy Wild Atlantic Way, Fáilte Ireland
Mary McVey Northern Ireland Screen

We hope all attendees enjoyed a productive and inspiring conference.

With sincere thanks to Una Murphy and Niamh Stack and the wonderful team at and Karen Jones and her team.
