๐Ÿงต Thank You From Threads of Lore

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us during Heritage Week to help create our community tapestry. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to stitch, chat, share skills and contribute to this special project.

Weโ€™re really looking forward to bringing all of your individual pieces together over the coming weeks and seeing the finished tapestry take shape.

If you took your piece home to finish, we would be grateful if you could return it to Dunshaughlin Library or give it to any member of Threads of Lore by Tuesday, 8th September.

๐Ÿชก Please remember to write your name on the corner of your fabric so your contribution can be recorded as part of the tapestryโ€™s story.

Thank you again to everyone who took part and made the afternoon such an enjoyable and memorable one. ๐Ÿ’œ

Celebrating a Wonderful National Heritage Week ๐Ÿ’œ

What a fantastic day we had in Dunshaughlin for National Heritage Week 2026, with two very special Threads of Lore events celebrating community, creativity and local history.

๐Ÿงต The ๐…๐š๐›๐ซ๐ข๐œ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Ž๐ฎ๐ซ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ welcomed a brilliant turnout to Dunshaughlin Pastoral Centre, where experienced stitchers and complete beginners came together to help create our new community tapestry. Every participant added their own stitch to the piece and, very importantly, their names will be recorded for posterity.

Later that evening, we were delighted to welcome a full house to Dunshaughlin Library for ๐•๐จ๐ฒ๐š๐ ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‡๐จ๐ฉ๐ž, sharing the moving story of the sixteen young women who left Dunshaughlin Workhouse for Australia in 1849 under the Earl Grey Assisted Emigration Scheme.

Jim Gilligan shared the history of the sixteen young women, while Susan Horgan, Project Lead for the Voyage of Hope Tapestry, spoke about the girls, how their stories are being brought to life through the tapestry and her very special meeting earlier this year with descendants of Margaret Wogan.

It was a wonderful day for Threads of Lore and a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to stitch, research, share stories and preserve our local heritage.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us and helped make both events such a success. ๐Ÿ’œ

Voyage of Hope is supported by Meath County Council and Creative Ireland, while The Fabric of Our Community workshop was supported by The Heritage Council.

As part of National Heritage Week 2026, Threads of Lore is delighted to invite you to the launch of the โ€˜Voyage of Hopeโ€™ Tapestry, sharing the remarkable story of 16 young girls who left Dunshaughlin Workhouse for a new life in Australia in 1849.

Follow in their footsteps as their story takes us from Dunshaughlin to Plymouth, around the Cape of Good Hope and onwards to Sydney, a journey now remembered and brought to life through the Threads of Lore tapestry.

The evening will include a special presentation by Mr Jim Gilligan, exploring the story behind the girls, their departure from Dunshaughlin and their voyage to Australia.

This Heritage Week, Threads of Lore is inviting our local community to pick up a needle and thread and become part of a very special collaborative tapestry.

Join us for The Fabric of Our Community, a relaxed embroidery workshop where together we will create a local tapestry celebrating our community, our heritage and the tradition of stitching.

No previous embroidery experience is needed. Weโ€™ll provide all the equipment, introduce you to some basic stitches and thereโ€™ll be light refreshments too. Most importantly, every participantโ€™s name will be recorded for posterity, becoming part of the story behind the finished tapestry.

Come along, learn a little about embroidery, meet fellow members of the community and add your own stitches to a piece of local heritage.

Friday 14th August was a busy day in the Library as the Threads Of Lore members put the finishing touches to the plans for their two Heritage week Events on Thursday August 20th.

There is great interest in the creation of a local tapestry and we have received many enquiries and bookings. But there are plenty of images to embroider and thereโ€™s still time to be part of this tapestry, you can email [email protected] or call 0872443719 to make your booking and we look forward to seeing you in the Pastoral Centre from 4-6 pm on August 20th.

We are really looking forward to the launch of the new tapestry called Voyage of
Hope and the talk by local historian Jim Gilligan who will tell the story of the girls who left Dunshaughlin for Sydney in 1849 on The Earl Grey Scheme. We are delighted that local artist Ailbhe Reilly Tuite will also be in attendance. Places are limited so contact Dunshaughlin Library 8250504 or [email protected] to ensure you have a seat on the night as The launch is from 7.30pm until 9pm.

Both events are free of charge and will serve light refreshments. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

๐ŸงตOur New Website is Live!

After years of creativity, research, stitching, storytelling and community collaboration, we are so proud to finally share the Threads of Lore website with the world.

Our new website is a place to discover the people, stories and skills behind Threads of Lore. Meet our stitchers, learn about the artists who create the original designs, follow the Journey of the River Boyne in Threads, explore the history, mythology and folklore inspiring our panels, and even learn a little more about the stitches and techniques used to bring each story to life.

So many hours of research, drawing, planning and careful stitching have brought us to this point, and it means a great deal to finally have a home where we can share it all with you.

There is much more still to come, but for now, we would love you to visit, have a look around and discover the story of Threads of Lore.

Our new website is now live visit ๐Ÿ‘‰ threadsoflore.ie
