As we put the final touches to our short film Grace, a fictional reimagining inspired by the women of the Irish War of Independence, we take a look at some of the remarkable women who played a part in Ireland’s struggle for freedom from British rule.
In the decades that followed, their contributions and achievements were often sidelined, and the hopes they held for greater equality and rights for women were never fully realised.
First up is perhaps the most famous and celebrated of them all: Constance Markievicz.
Markievicz will be portrayed by Audrey Carolan in Grace.
