I’ve been feeling really boxed in lately. Not by ideas, but by what I had to work with. Limited tools, limited space (this is really holding me back), and never enough time. And right now, time and space aren’t things I can change. So I stopped fighting that part and changed what I could. I updated some of my tools with these brushes as I’ve wanted to create more washes to play with density. Im looking forward to stretching some new canvas and seeing what I create. Watch this space! 🙂

In this piece, i focused on texture in the brushwork. I like when you can see layers and mistakes build up instead of big flat blocks of colour. I always want the paint to have snippets of irregularities.

This Reel shows the various stages of Liminal, it was built up in layers, the decisions altered and the piece changed as it went.

My work is never about getting it perfect, but more about knowing when to stop.

Working my way through this 💚

This painting changes depending on the light.

The colours shift throughout the day.
They’re softer in the evening and more vibrant in the morning.

The painting is acrylic on canvas and as always, is a layered compositions built over multiple sessions.

In Penumbra, light is never fully fixed, and Liminal captures that in-between space where shadow is continuously shifting.

This piece works well in a clean space as it adds colour without taking over.

Original available. Giclee prints on paper and canvas also available.

Do you like the softer or bolder palettes? I love both equally, very much depends on my mood.

This sits somewhere between how I see now as a painter and how I used to think as a designer.

There was a period where I kept building these puzzle-like structures, stacking shapes, fitting pieces together, without trying, building structural pieces that often floated in space. You can see it in the earlier pieces superimposed on the reel. This one pulls the puzzles apart, I was working backwards, disconnecting and dislodging the elements. It’s probably where my graphic design thinking started to shift towards creating more instinctively. One of the things I love most about painting is that I work from my heart and not my head which is what graphic design forces you to do. :-)

Available, DM if interested.
