Loving Life Choir awarded €48,120 for new youth musical project

The Loving Life Choir is beginning a new chapter after Foscadh Housing Association CLG secured €48,120 from the Housing Finance Agency (HFA) Social Impact Fund for Finding Our Voice: A Youth Musical Journey of Belonging.

The award was announced at the HFA Customer Seminar in Chartered Accountants House, Dublin. For the choir, the funding is an acknowledgement of the hard work its young members put in week in, week out. It also recognises their commitment to representing Drogheda on national and international stages.

Over the coming year, approximately 35 children and young people aged 5 to 18 will take part in weekly music, drama, movement and storytelling sessions. Their ideas and experiences will help shape a public musical theatre performance planned for summer 2027.

Ken O’Heiligh, Choir Lead of the Loving Life Choir, said: “This award gives our young people the chance to explore what belonging means to them and to tell their stories through music and performance. We are grateful to the HFA for supporting the next chapter of the choir’s journey.”

Jade Quinn, Music Director, said: “The choir members bring such energy and imagination to every rehearsal. This project gives them time and space to develop their own ideas, grow as performers and create something they can truly call their own.”

Aodhamair Reilly, Assistant Music Director, said: “What makes this choir special is the way the young people encourage one another. I am looking forward to seeing the friendships and confidence they have built come through in this new performance.”

The free programme will welcome young people from Foscadh tenant communities and across Drogheda. It will offer an inclusive space to develop confidence, creativity and friendships, with additional supports available where needed.

In Loving Memory of Rosaleen Dunne ❤️

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and much loved volunteer Rosaleen Dunne passed away on Monday morning.

Rosaleen held a very special place in the story of the Loving Life Choir. When our Choir was founded in 2019, we relied greatly on her kindness, generosity and willingness to help.

She volunteered at our rehearsals, travelled with us to performances and was always there behind the scenes, quietly helping to make things happen. Whether it was carrying microphone stands, helping at rehearsals or simply being that extra pair of hands when we needed one, we knew we could rely on Rosaleen 100%.

At our rehearsal on Friday, knowing that Rosaleen was very unwell, the Loving Life Choir dedicated a special song to her. It was our way of sending our love to someone who had given so much of her own time, kindness and support to our Choir over the years.
Sadly, Rosaleen passed away on Monday morning.

We will remember Rosaleen not only for everything she did for the Loving Life Choir, but for the kind, caring and generous person she was.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Rosaleen’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her at this very sad time.

Thank you, Rosaleen, for everything you gave to the Loving Life Choir. You were there for us from the beginning, you will always be part of our story, and you will be very sadly missed.

Slán go fóill, Rosaleen. Codladh sámh.

What a fantastic surprise to open today’s Drogheda Leader and see a full page of photographs from our Cruinniú na nÓg performance in Drogheda Town Centre! 🎭🎶

We are incredibly proud of all our wonderful young performers who brought so much energy, talent and joy to the day. Seeing these special moments captured reminds us of the power of music to bring people together and create a real sense of belonging.

Following the successful completion of our Exploring Identity and Belonging Through Performance project in Drogheda Town Centre, the choir was delighted to be invited to perform at the Oldbridge Summer Festival.

This was a chance for everyone to relax, have fun, enjoy performing together, and make the most of the beautiful sunshine.

A special thank you to Jade Quinn and the Vibrant Voice Choir for inviting us and helping to make it such an enjoyable occasion.
