🛠️ Built with love (and a heat knife!) 🦐
If you’ve ever unboxed an order from us, you’ve probably noticed it doesn't look like it came off a factory assembly line. You’ll see some hand-cut styrofoam and a healthy dose of DIY spirit. It’s definitely not going to win any "most glamorous packaging" awards, but it's very good protection for our shrimplets!
Why the hands-on approach? 🌡️
Professional, pre-made thermal crates can be incredibly expensive; sometimes costing €30 for the box alone and we don't get any bulk discounts. As a two-person team (just myself and my better half, Ciara), we didn’t want that cost to fall on to you. However, as Geneticists and absolute lovers of these little creatures, we simply couldn't in good conscience just "toss them in a box" and hope for the best.
Our solution? A bit of elbow grease. We custom-fit every box with styrofoam we cut ourselves using a heat knife. It might look a bit "bespoke," but it’s incredibly effective at keeping the water temperature steady during the trip.
We exclusively use UPS Express Next-Day. That is the only carrier that accepts live animals but it must be a guaranteed next day. From the UPS terms: "Live animals will only be accepted for transportation when shipped by any UPS service that guarantees delivery the next day" and we approve that. Safety first.
During the colder months we will always include professional heat packs to keep everyone cozy.
The "Extra Shrimp" Rule: Our shipping and packaging costs usually sit between €25–€30. If we happen to catch a lucky break on the UPS rates the day we ship your order, we love to toss in a few extra shrimp to compensate you for the difference! 🦐✨
At the end of the day, we’d much rather have a box that performs great than one that also looks great at the expense of you. We hope you understand!
