Ocean studios Ireland Work with Producer Composer, musician, Wayne Sheehy in his Studio on the shores of Bantry bay

WAYNE SHEEHY , THE STORY
Wayne's story is littered with some of the most pivotal shapers, movers and shakers of music as we know it today.His origins however would not give a strong indication
of the direction his life would take. Wayne grew up in a draughty old hotel situated on the shores of the North Atlantic Ocean in West Cork Ireland in a time when he had to travel 20k to buy a music
magazine

and 100k to buy an album of any relevance and inspiration. Music was traditional singing or "country and Irish" and the local dance hall was moving but only
slowly with the times.Wayne once hitchhiked to Birmingham in England (catching a ferry)with a pal to watch Roxy Music such was the rarity of touring acts in the
southwest.However his passion for music ignited his school pals and before too long a residency was started with a ramshackle bunch of Irish men both on and off the
stage.His passion for making music and playing his drums was finally airborne! What followed in the next few years was the typical story of good habits and bad habits, premature highs, surprise laden lows and then the moment of epiphany in
the form of an insightful Father, a young son and a clever choice of an acoustic guitar ,folk songs or the road to nowhere..He chose the guitar and folk music and
although he later returned to his first instrument (the drums) this single moment kicked started a successful career that has never stopped. He has toured and recorded and occasionally still plays with Rolling Stone Ron Wood, consequently throughout his touring career with Ronnie he has accompanied
many "legends " of rock and roll" including Van Morrison,Rod Stewart,Ronnie lane, Aretha Franklin, Bobby Womack, to name a few.He has also recorded with amongst
others Bo Diddley,Bono, Greg Cohen(Tom Waits), The Chieftans, The Edge, Peter Gabriel,Hothouse Flowers,Carl Carlton,toured and performed with Robert Palmer,Eric
Burdon, Moya Brennan (Clannad),Michelle Shocked, the list goes on and so does Wayne . Although Wayne has always loved being a player, as time progressed he found himself intervening in the sessions more and more and came to realise his destiny was to
be a producer.To this day he remains in this role.He runs a busy Studio in the quaint village of Kilcrohane where his story began. His clients travel from as far as Sydney,
Philadelphia, LA , and Central Europe to work with him.His philosophy is to make it affordable,professional,comfortable and inspirational.The location is one of the most
beautiful in the world and the studio is well equipped and accommodation is included if required.He has his own small independent label Oceanwest records . Finally a quote from Wayne .

I’m pretty slow announcing clients etc as I respect their privacy and I like to protect the creative /production/ arrangement/ performance elements of what I do. However…..here’s an update

Been a busy 8 months in Ocean. Three number 1 iTunes successes from Eoghan OKeefe (1) and Brian OGlanby’s The Deep hour. (2) . The Deep hours third single “ These are my streets” is released on May 8th and I’ve every confidence this song will be a radio breakthrough.
We have just said goodbye for now to California based Kim Rosen who was in Ocean to remix her Heart Thunder piece originally recorded here last year, ( we also performed together in the Linen hall Castlebar last week).
Eoghan OKeefe has a follow up single awaiting a mix and is currently starting his album which I’m very much looking forward to producing ( this west cork man has a fantastic voice and unique style).
Meanwhile new clients will be joining us from Slovenia later this month to record an album . Gerry Brutons album is nearing completion a mid Atlantic folk album, a timeless slice of Americana. ( We recently performed together in Bordeaux).

Every year we do a Christmas voucher for recording gifts. They always turn out great fun and everyone enjoys the experience and the result. Here is Ray Coakley from Bantry who was suprised by his family last year . He recorded a fantastic version of Tom Jones song “ I who have nothing”.
He has a wonderful voice as you can hear here… we produce the track as you’d like it , it’s not Karaoke, it’s real recording and production.
If you’re interested in a recording gift let us know and we will cut the cloth according to your needs . We even do fully catered family recording weekends .

My advice “ don’t be a gear head be an ear head” . Every producer has there favourite tech they use. Mine is generally my mics and my instruments first and foremost.
Everybody justifiably holds Bob Clearmountain in great regard. I’ve had the honour of working with him. He’s a total gent. On one occasion he was the mobile recording engineer. I had a hundred questions I wanted to ask him . He came over to my set up and we chatted he thanked me for using so many 57’s on my spec saying they were the perfect mic in live situations and told me Tom Petty and the heartbreakers used nothing else except on the low end. I said I’d see him in catering after sound check and rehearsals. I apologised for the question but couldn’t resist asking him what speakers he preferred to mix on ? His answer was what I’d always thought myself . “ Ones you know, and listen to music on, you don’t need to spend $2k on some fancy studio monitors “. Great advice.
Personally I tend to spend on my headphones, and that in my opinion absolutely does make a significant difference.
