The Gab

The Gab Cork based Storytelling community www.thegab.ie One attendee described it as " ... much more than storytelling.

The inaugural gathering of The Gab mixtape, a night of stories and song took place in Coughlan's on the 30th of June 2016. It is entertaining, philosophical, mystical, musical and memorable." The crowd demanded more and The Gab has had a storytelling related event almost every month since then. The monthly mixtape is the staple but there's also been workshops, competitions and much more in the pipeline.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Batt Burns, we had some great visits to the Sneem Storytelling Festival which he founded and have drawn on his work for many of the traditional tales we tell at the Gab. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

It is with great sadness that we have received the news that our founder and friend Batt Burns passed away peacefully last night. He was a major figure in South Kerry traditional culture and, indeed the entire storytelling community. It goes without saying that all of us involved with the festival are deeply saddened and we can only send our heartfelt condolences to Batt’s family and many friends. Rest in peace Batt we will miss you.
