Today is the 56th anniversary of the death of John Weldon (aka Brinsley MacNamara), author of "The Valley of The Squinting Windows". He died in Gilford Drive, Sandymount and was buried in Deans Grange Cemetery. Over a half century after his death his novel has found a new life in the form of Frank Shouldice's fantastic play which we, the Rapscallion Drama Group, are privileged to have performed multiple times in the past year. "The book" has caused a fair bit of drama in its time but in the last 12 months has been re-appraised and celebrated. This Friday, we will take to the stage again in Tuar Ard Arts Centre, our 5th performance of Garradrimna; one wonders what John would say if he knew that the people of Delvin (plus a few others) were bringing his work to new audiences in the year 2019? We hope he would've approved. Maybe a scribbler is welcome in his home town after all.
