Athlone Choral Society table quiz night is on at 8pm in The Bounty Bar on Thursday 19th February.

Teams of 4, and €40 per table.

🎵 Sing with us 🎵

ACS choir starts back practice Monday 12th January 2026 at 7.15pm-9.30pm in St. Peter's NS Hall in preparation for our Summer concert in May. 🎶

If you love to sing and would like to join us, please come along on Monday. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. 😊

💚💙💛 EGM Cancer Support 💛💙💚

This evening at our annual Christmas concert, there will be a raffle in aid of EGM Cancer Support.

East Galway & Midlands Cancer Support, formed in 2012, is a non-profit charitable organisation which provides a network of psychological, emotional and practical support for those diagnosed with cancer.

They have multiple Counsellors, as well as therapists specialising in complementary treatments working with them on a day-to-day basis. Their centre would not exist without the commitment and dedication of their staff and amazing volunteers.

The number of people attending weekly has now reached 200+. All the support they offer is free of charge. They have also become a member of the European Cancer Patient Coalition (ECPC) which gives them both a political and medical voice in Europe. They provide a full-time drop-in Centre as well as a 24-hour phone service.

Members from EGM Cancer Support will be in St. Mary's Church of Ireland, Athlone from 6.30pm this evening if you would like to help support this wonderful charity.

🎶 Andrius, our amazing Musical Director 🎶

Andrius is an accomplished musician & teacher. He studied music for many years in his home town of Vilnius, Lithuania, where he conducted his first choir when he was just 18 years old. In 1997, he attained a Masters Degree in Music from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, specialising in Choir Conducting and Teaching.
Andrius came to Ireland for the first time in 2002, and has conducted many successful choirs here since then. He is currently a musical director for 7 different choirs/groups across the midlands. Andrius brought his vast knowledge and experience to Athlone Choral Society in 2011, where he first joined as assistant director, and later became principal Director in 2017.

🎹 Our wonderful accompanist and pianist, Daren Lane. 🎹

As a child, Daren attended the Junior Academy of the Royal Academy of Music, London. Following this, he attended a specialist music school, the Purcell School of Music, studying piano, organ and guitar. He achieved his B Mus Perf degree, specialising in piano from the Royal Academy of Music. Daren also studied organ, obtaining an ARCO diploma. He later gained an M Mus degree in Performance from London College of Music. In addition to performance, Daren has experience teaching piano in London, Roscommon Town, Athlone and Ballyforan. He has a particular affinity with the music of Mozart, Schubert and Schumann.

🎵 Meet Helen 🎵

Come hear Helen Hancock Soprano sing at our annual Christmas concert this Sunday, 7th December at 7pm in St. Mary's Church of Ireland, Athlone.

Helen Hancock is a Galway based soprano who has performed in venues all over Ireland. Her debut album TOGETHERNESS with German pianist Paul Cibis is out now on Navona Records. Helen and Paul originally performed this recital in Germany as part of the Zeitgeist Irland 24 Irish season (Culture Ireland/The Embassy of Ireland in Germany). Paul and Helen will perform in Galway to launch the album on February 1st 2026 and in the Goethe Institut in Dublin on February 5th 2026.

Helen recently played Molly opposite Dean Power, tenor in the opera Lady Gregory in America (Colm Toibín/Alberto Caruso) at the Yeats-Gregory Autumn Gathering in September produced by Lelia Doolan in association with the Abbey Theatre.

Helen recently founded The Triskel Ensemble, a string quartet of Galway based musicians with whom she has several concerts coming up focusing on the lighter side of music. Helen had a busy summer, giving the Gala concert for the 60th anniversary of the Yeats Tower, Thoor Ballylee, salon concerts at Claregalway Castle, and an art and music collaboration for Culture Night.

Helen has vast experience as a choral conductor, wind ensemble director, voice and recorder teacher at Coole Music and Arts, Galway and she frequently adjudicates for the Galway Choral Competition Choir Factor. She was selected as a TAP+ artist for the Galway Education centre in 2025-2026 and will be participating in artist residencies in Galway schools.
