🧠 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A PHILOSOPHER TEACHES THAT HUMANS ARE NATURALLY EVIL?

Xunzi was a Confucian philosopher with a DARK view of human nature. Unlike Confucius who was optimistic, and Mencius who believed humans are inherently good, Xunzi declared: "Human nature is evil. Goodness is acquired."

The shocking twist: his two most famous students—Han Feizi and Li Si—became the chief architects of the Qin Dynasty. They created the brutal legal system that massacred 400,000 soldiers at Changping and burned thousands of books across China.

This is the story of:
• A teacher with a controversial philosophy
• Students who applied his teachings in the most brutal way
• A historical irony that changed China forever

They had already lost.
After 46 days of starvation,
after eating their horses…
their armor…
even each other…
400,000 Zhao soldiers surrendered.
They laid down their weapons.
They begged for mercy.
What they received instead was silence…
and a decision that would echo for over two thousand years.
Under General Bai Qi, Qin chose annihilation.
That night, the valley of Changping became a graveyard.
This was not just a military victory.
It was psychological warfare.
It was total war.
It was the moment Zhao was broken forever.
And it was the step that pushed Qin closer to unifying China.
History remembers the winners.
But the ground remembers the dead.

Two kingdoms. Two paths. One fate.

In the north, two states held the line against Qin.

YAN chose assassination. They sent Jing Ke to kill the King of Qin. He got close. He missed. Qin's revenge was absolute.

DAI chose defiance. When Zhao fell, King Jia escaped north and built a new kingdom. For six years, he refused to surrender.

In 222 BC, both fell within months of each other.

Yan's king killed his own son to beg for mercy. It didn't work.
Dai's king fought to the end and was captured. His honor remained.

Two kingdoms. One year. Both erased.

What do you do when you can't breach a city's walls? You bring the city to the water.

The State of Wei thought they were safe behind their massive walls. They were wrong.

In 225 BC, Qin general Wang Ben did the unthinkable. He redirected the Yellow River—the very river that gave life to Wei—and turned it into a weapon of mass destruction.

Daliang, the mighty capital, became a watery grave.

This is how Wei fell. Not with a bang... but with a flood.

After defeating the Shang at the Battle of Muye, the Zhou introduced a revolutionary idea — the Mandate of Heaven.
Under Zhou Dynasty, China entered its longest ruling dynasty and built a powerful feudal system known as Fengjian. But what began as a brilliant strategy to control vast lands slowly planted the seeds of collapse.
When King You of Zhou played a reckless joke with beacon fires just to make his concubine smile, trust between the king and his lords shattered forever.
The capital fell. The West was lost. And the Zhou entered the chaotic era known as the Spring and Autumn period — a time of war, ambition, and rising warlords.
This is how one of China’s greatest dynasties began to fall.

229 BC.
Zhao was already starving.
Qin saw weakness — and moved.
Three generals marched north.
Wang Jian. Yang Duanhe. Qiang Hui.
Steel advanced. Cities trembled.
But Zhao still had Li Mu — the one commander Qin feared.
They couldn’t break him in battle.
So they broke the court instead.
Gold changed hands.
Whispers turned into accusations.
The king began to doubt his greatest general.
Li Mu was removed.
That was the moment Zhao died.
In 228 BC, Handan fell.
Qin didn’t just win.
They erased a kingdom.

Before unifying China, the Qin Dynasty eliminated one of its most dangerous frontier enemies — Yiqu.
Instead of open battle, Qin invited the Yiqu king into their territory… and assassinated him.
Leaderless and divided, Yiqu collapsed soon after.
This was not just war.
This was calculated domination.
The road to unification was built on blood.
