hi everyone. I'm not doing the normal fundraiser for my birthday, so anyone who would like to celebrate it, I'll give you some things I would love anyone to support:
TREAT YOURSELF TO A LIVE SHOW. For the New Yorkers, you have 3 chances STARTING TONIGHT to see I ARE Music - Amy Engelhardt perform her solo show Impact - this will give you the feels and uplift you! https://ci.ovationtix.com/35658/production/1213211?fbclid=IwY2xjawGGLidleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHV-JOaNTTEp7kDQPCbygCkzqDRsRlQuzTvGESMzxKIIqfE9yZfh87Ds4kA_aem_i2P-f88Gz78KYuXbP_8o0Q there are 3 price scales to choose from.
You can also support live music by checking out small venues where the talent is very well supported by hosts- they make next to nothing from streaming platforms, so their income is basically touring. The youngest series is Folkus-Nyc in Brooklyn, which actually has a listening room if you're not the type to enjoy coming over to hang out in a living room (although what's wrong with that?)
Finally-- thanks to those checking in to make sure I heard the devastating news of Matthew Sweet's stroke. A compelling songwriter and great pal of his "Sweeties," Matthew had to receive intensive medical care in Toronto while on tour, get transported home to Nebraska, and must have round the clock care and no doubt additional phyisical therapy and goodness knows what else in the months to come. And even when you're a drone who DOES have insurance, you're screwed if something happens in Canada. But most musicians aren't properly covered anywhere-- so even if they meet their 250k goal I'm betting it won't be enough. A lot of people are just tossing in a few bucks and when he can see how much everyone wants to help out, it will surely lift his spirits. https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-matthew-sweets-stroke-recovery . Thanks for ANY of these considerations
