Summer is time when things seem to slow down giving us well needed break from the daily rush. It kind of offers more time for daydreaming and doing things which were on hold for quite some time.
One of them for me is looking up. Summer with its less cloudy nights offers more visibility and opportunities to enjoy that vastness from above. For those who want to get deep into it can be a very time consuming passion ;)
Well, it seems that August is pretty good for looking above as many things do happen on the sky. Beside the usual air traffic and satellites (getting very busy up there) last night we had a chance to enjoy Perseid meteor shower in its fullest. What a beautiful sight. To think people not so far ago were thinking these were the falling stars and were creating stories and mythologies around what they saw above is incredible.
What's even more incredible is how much we got to know about the Universe in last 500 years just from watching the above, theorizing, calculating, predicting and how much it changed our lives.
Incredible.
So much can be said about the sky and how much it inspired humanity.
And I probably would not be writing this if it was not for noticing a crescent waxing gibbous moon passing by an illuminated arena nearby.
Photos do not give this moment a justice but at least it will remind me of this moment.
Enjoy dear friends and I wish you a good night. Look up from time to time maybe you will get surprised if not inspired ;)
P.S. Geek snack - Moon in this phase as it descends toward horizon gets lit by the sunlight passing through our atmosphere which scatters blue light and bends (or refracts) red light toward the moon.
