is one of my favorite creators on tiktok. They advocate for children’s rights through music and they were one of the first people I drew when I purchased procreate. This is probably still my favorite piece. Its one of those paintings that were fun to make and were not quite thought out but turned out great!

While creating this digital drawing, it made me reflect on the vulnerabilities men face in society—especially how certain structures fail to protect them. Throughout history, men have been expected to sacrifice themselves in war, often without a choice. They make up the majority of casualties, yet discussions around war frequently highlight women and children as the primary victims. Even today, we see examples of men being required to stay and fight while others are allowed to flee.

It’s an aspect of gender roles that isn’t often acknowledged—how men have historically been seen as strong, capable, and therefore, disposable. It’s a conversation worth having, especially when discussing true equality. What are your thoughts?

This is my third attempt at caricatures—definitely harder than realism, to be honest. I understand the art teachers who use to say Picasso’s abstraction was harder to master than realism. As students we use to scoff at this because we thought a kid could draw better and that abstraction required no skillsets. But let me tell you, when you get to the point where your skillsets allow you to draw realistically and you master it—its really hard to get back into the creative mindset of a child and distort proportions with intention. Me attempting to do a caricature would mean I would have to go against everything I was taught to do. In my opinion one of the hardest things to do is mastering something to the point of unlearning it.

Medusa. We all know the classic tale—the monstrous Gorgon with snakes for hair, cursed to turn men to stone. But there’s another interpretation of her story, one that shifts her from villain to victim, or even survivor.

Medusa was the only mortal among the fearsome Gorgons, said to be cursed by Athena either for her vanity or an ill-fated affair with Poseidon. But many believe it wasn’t an affair at all—that she was assaulted, and Athena’s ‘curse’ was actually a form of protection, turning Medusa into someone no man could ever harm again.

Over time, Medusa has become a powerful symbol, representing various different stances for various different people. She was either a symbol of fear, power, resilience, or even survival. Her story isn’t just one of tragedy—it’s one many could find a comfort in.

This painting features Medusa sitting on a throne of snakes as the light among the darkness that surrounds her with Athena and Posaidon statued in the darker parts of the digital painting.

Here’s my second attempt at a caricature—though I’m not sure it fits the definition. I was given a reference photo (shown in the second image) and experimented with exaggeration while still keeping some resemblance. I did distort certain features, but the final result leans more toward stylization than a traditional caricature, which is often humorous in a highly exaggerated way.

It’s interesting how even small changes can push a portrait in different directions. Would you still classify this as a caricature? Let me know what you think!

As part of an art class exercise, I transformed Billie Eilish into a fantasy troll—an unexpected but really useful way to sharpen drawing skills and creativity. Exercises like this help master the balance between observation and imagination, making it easier to design original characters from “scratch” or well existing references. By blending features from existing figures, you train your mind to recognize patterns, shapes, and structures. Drawing isn’t just about technique it also requires you to building a visual library in your mind that you can access every time you want to create something. Which allows you to create from your imagination more intuitively, over time. Definitely a great way to push artistic growth!

This was my attempt at a caricature, and I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for artists who specialize in this style. It’s incredibly challenging to exaggerate features while still maintaining enough likeness for the person to recognize. As someone who has painted realistically my whole life, shifting into this style was particularly difficult—letting go of strict proportions and learning how to push and pull features in a way that feels intentional and playful. Definitely a skill that takes time to master and very hard for the perfectionists mindset!

For this uni project, we were given a reference and tasked with creating a new character from it. The deep purples in the reference immediately made me think of the night—quiet, and full of unseen movement. That’s how this figure transformed into a bat-like woman, a creature of the dark, shaped by the atmosphere of the piece itself. I painted the bat details subtly into the shadows, almost hidden at first glance. Only when you look longer do the abnormalities reveal themselves—just like how our minds play tricks on us in the dark, turning ordinary shapes into something terrifying. Maybe she is a bat-women but she might just be a figure of your imagination.

This is one of the first pieces I’ve created when starting on procreate. I did videos on tiktok too and this one had an audio that was thought provoking. Did we lose a lot of knowledge during the witch hunts (assuming women were sent to die because of them being knowledgable) and have we retrieved all of it today?
