What a summer is behind us…

There are many people to thank after a summer like this one, and we would like to finish, like a cherry on top, with the ones who were there from the first morning to the last night.

The people in between everything were our volunteers (aka the best of the best): at the pier, at the venues, at the screenings and concerts, with guests and with each other. Always smiling and always ready to help, to show you the way or simply stop for a chat and crack a joke or two, no matter how hard or hot it got.

Some of them joined for the first time this year. Others have been coming back for years, and have become a lasting part of the Ponta Lopud family.

Thank you to all of you, new and old, for everything you gave us. We couldn’t have done it without you. 🤍🐈‍⬛

Three days on Lopud, and the island feels a little different now. Rooms full of readings turned into terrace conversations, panels spilled into lunch tables, and by the third evening the line between guests and hosts had pretty much disappeared.

Stories about home, exile, conflict and belonging, new voices and familiar ones, readings that stretched into sunsets, and conversations that kept going long after the microphones were off. That was this year’s Book Bridge.

To our sponsors and partners who stand behind every page and every encounter: this mosaic simply wouldn’t exist without you.

And to everyone working quietly behind the scenes, production, tech, logistics, volunteers, translation and copy-editing, communications, photo and video, transport, hospitality, the local community, and everyone who carries this festival through the rest of the year with patience and dedication: you are the Book Bridge, just as much as any author on stage.

The final day of the PL Book Bridge opened with a conversation between Danijela Crljen and Ivana Lovrić Jović, who spoke about belonging, writing, and the books they brought with them, Danijela’s book “10 000 koraka” and Ivana’s book “Devet receptora za gorko”, moderated by Staša Aras.

Next came the panel “Home, Exile and Belonging”, bringing together , Shane Tivenan, Claire-Lise Kieffer and Faruk Šehić, moderated by , who spoke about displacement, how exile shapes a writer’s voice, and what it means to belong to more than one place.

Afterwards, Dario Harjaček and Jelena Miholjević talked about adapting literary works for the theatre.

The day, and the festival, closed with everyone gathering at ’s for an informal get-together, sharing conversation about their work and giving a beautiful ending note to this festival.

We opened day two of the PL Book Bridge with the panel “Different Places, Different Stories: New Irish Writing and Fiction in ‘Our’ Languages”, bringing together , Louise Nealon, Jessamine O'Connor, Faruk Šehić and Marinko Koščec, who spoke about their paths to writing and their views on language and the new generation. The conversation was moderated by Aidan O’Malley and Staša Aras.

Next came the panel “Contemporary Croatian Fiction”, introducing two new titles. Patricija Horvat introduced Marinko Koščec and his novel “Preko mosta” (V.B.Z., 2026), while Staša Aras introduced Dario Harjaček and his book “Stotina godina” (Ocean More, 2025). The authors shared the background of their books, the themes they explore and the thinking behind them, after which they read selected parts, Marinko read his own passage, while a section from Dario’s book was read by Jelena Miholjević.

The day also closed with “Author Readings”, bringing together Martin Doyle, Faruk Šehić, Jessamine O'Connor and Jelena Miholjević, moderated by . The afternoon rain gave way to a clear evening sky, and as the four authors read from their work, the sun set over Lopud, closing the day on a quiet, beautiful note.

Day one of the PL Book Bridge is behind us and it was such a good one!

We started with the official festival opening and program introduction. Opening remarks were given by Tilda Bogdanovic , Staša Aras and James Candon , followed by coffee, mingling and conversation ahead of the first panel.

The panel “Literature After Conflict: How Stories Help Us Live with Trauma” brought together authors .matic , Martin Doyle and Faruk Šehić , who spoke about how their personal experiences shaped their writing. The conversation was moderated by Staša Aras and James Candon.

Next came “Voices of Contemporary Irish Literature”, author readings by , Louise Nealon and Jessamine O'Connor , where the authors briefly presented their books and read a chosen part. The session was moderated by James Candon.

Following lunch and a brief break, the day closed with Pricigin coming to Ponta Lopud. The session was led by Patricija Horvat, with James Candon, Louise Nealon , Danijela Crljen and Marinko Koščec bringing interesting stories and lots of laughter.
