We are presenting a group exhibition inspired by the themes of romance and freedom in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The exhibition features Wang Hao’s romantic surrealist oil paintings, Feng Hanping’s abstract landscape paintings, Katrina Leigh Mendoza Raimann’s textile artworks, and Ni Youyu’s special installation piece “Little God of Wine”.

This exhibition explores the blurred boundaries between reality and fantasy, reason and emotion, embodying the concept of life as a dream.

💚We are glad to kick off the exhibition “A Midsummer Dream,” inspired by Shakespearean themes of romance and freedom next Friday!

Featuring Ni Youyu’s “Little God of Wine” installation, paintings by Wang Hao, Xu Danqing, Feng Hanping, and Natali Do, as well as textile art by Katrina Leigh Mendoza Raimann and photography by Teresa Freitas, the show will explore the blurred lines between reality and illusion, reason and sensibility, embodying life as a dream. Balancing rationality and sensibility, achieving reconciliation akin to finding joy in dreamlike contemplation, the artists utilize diverse expressions and techniques to evoke emotions and narratives. Join us in this exploration of the poetic interplay between the ‘Dionysian spirit’ and the ‘Apollonian spirit’ in a surreal summer setting! 🌤️🌳🍷

Artist👩‍🎨 Katrina Leigh Mendoza Raimann

Katrina’s artistic practice focuses on materiality and action, as well as the history of gender and labor. For her, the coexistence of bodily movement and textiles in the creative process embeds the artist’s body, experiences, and emotional memories within the textiles. Her works explore a sense of uncertainty: the fleeting physical spaces and the immediacy of creativity.

Katrina的藝術實踐側重於物質和行動、性別和勞動力的歷史。對於她來說，在作品產生的過程中人體的動作和紡織品共存，嵌入在紡織品中的是藝術家的身體，經歷和情感記憶。她的作品探討一種不確定性：轉瞬即逝的物理空間和一觸即發的創造性。

藝術家伦裕智(Eugene Lun)的作品常用着漫画式的场景来向观者展现一些匪夷所思且怪诞的喜剧式场景，轻松诙谐生动有趣。画面中的主角又似观者自身的投射，旨在激发观者对日常习惯与行为方式的反思。

在Eugene Lun筆下的醜動物們在公共場合裡橫行無忌，展現自我，釋放出內心深處的原始生命力，讓它們自身感到一種強大的創造力，獲得沉醉的極度快樂。這種生命力的旺盛勃發，即是醜的內涵。

「在我的空間建構中，是物象空間，心象空間和筆象空間三種空間的重疊。物象空間在我的理解中是西方的經典透視，是我們通過眼睛就可以看到、感受到的。」

「心象空間是受到中國山水畫的影響，我小時候是從學國畫開始，這種情節一直埋藏在我的血液裡面。我的作品隱隱約約有中國山水畫的構圖：一些山峰或是一些塊面的重疊。東方的藝術認識空間是一種運動的，變化的過程。所以在看中國畫的時候會看到很多散點透視出現在畫面中，觀看的視角在不斷變化，就是所說的在氣運地、無限地運動中去建立東方化的空間。」

Feng Hanping‘s paintings evoke the classic Chinese landscape tradition, with distant vistas observed through a distinctive, scattered perspective that gradually unfolds in near-abstract scenes.

The modernity of urban space manifests in diverse ways - geometric forms that enclose the entire frame, or dynamic temporal shapes that pierce the spatial composition. These concrete and abstract forms disrupt classical equilibrium, yet the enduring Chinese ideal of man in harmony with nature persists as an underlying current.

馮瀚平畫作中的觀看是一種經典的有著中國山水畫傳統的中遠距離眺望，獨特的散點透視在近乎抽象的風景捕捉中逐漸展開。
都市空間的現代性構成以多種形式涉足其中，時而以幾何圖形包裹封閉整個畫面，時而以充滿速度感的時間的形狀刺穿空間。這些或具體或抽象的形態被用來打破古典主義的平衡，但其中不變的仍是長久以來中國山水畫傳統中天人合一的出世追求。

🪵Feng Hanping has conducted profound research on space and expresses it through his painting language. His artworks initially incorporated the formal structure of Chinese landscape painting, but then attempted to obscure the structure of landscape painting through the fragmentation and reassembly of the elements.
藝術家馮瀚平對空間有著深刻的研究，並將其用自己的繪畫語言表現出來。作品起初引入了中國山水畫的形式結構，但最後又試圖通過碎片的打散與重組，遮蔽了山水畫的結構，形成其獨特的風格。

🎨In Xu Danqing’s creation, airbrushing is repeatedly mentioned. She uses the spray gun in her hand to evenly and gently spray on the canvas, with clear layers of space that are interconnected, possessing a somewhat surreal visual sense amidst the perplexing and intricate.
The petal-like edges are sometimes delicate and fragile, and sometimes resemble torn saw-tooth shapes that can slice across the painting surface at any moment.
在許丹青的創作媒介中，噴繪反復被提及。她用手中的噴槍均勻且柔和地噴灑於畫布，層疊的空間層次分明卻又環環相接，在撲朔迷離間頗有超現實觀感。花瓣似的邊緣時而輕薄吹彈可破時而猶如撕扯下的鋸齒隨時划出畫面。
