Perilous Mouths presents – Piano Moments – an original piece of theatre created by Clare Stearns.
Fringe Theatre Upstairs – May 26th to 28th
For nearly three hundred years before film, television and the internet the piano was the most popular form of entertainment and by the 20th century just about anyone who could afford it owned a piano. Six such piano owners, from different eras come together. They decide to entertain each other with songs and stories.
They are a lively and amusing bunch. The two French ‘sisters’ from Renoir’s famous painting are funny, sexy and irreverent. The enigmatic inventor of the piano, Cristofori, on the other hand, is consumed by an ancient sadness that, bizarrely, only the music of the great American songwriter Irving Berlin can sooth. Equally strange is the rivalry between two Victorian women – Emma Wedgwood and Alice Todd – who are both married to an adventurer called Charles!!
But throughout it all this uneasy group of characters caught in a space with nothing but themselves and two pianos begin to understand that they share profound feelings of love, loss and eventual redemption. Through their common love of music, song and their sharing of their piano moments, they begin to trust and find joy.
The talented ensemble cast features Helena Murchie, Forrest Morr, Grahame Carder, Jasmine Topp, Eimear Burns and Clare Stearns.
