“Home: Heartbeat is the Only Distance”- Overview 展覽概覽

The exhibition “Home: Heartbeat is the Only Distance” is open! Thank you all for attending. This showcase brings together the creative practices of ten groups of artists and students to explore the multifaceted concept of “Home.”

Rather than presenting a singular definition, the exhibition offers a collection of deeply personal responses—viewing “Home” as the fundamental source of emotion and existence in the artists’ lives. We cordially invite you to step into the inner worlds of these creators through their works, and to experience the profound tension of art that transcends the boundaries of language.

展覽「家．心跳是唯一的距離」正式開幕了! 這次匯聚了十組藝術家與同學的創意實踐，探索「家」之概念。在此，觀眾所見的並非單一的定義，而是對「家」——作為藝術家生命中情感與存在之源的一系列個人回應。本展覽邀請您透過作品走進藝術家們的內心世體驗藝術的越超越語言的張力。

This work gathers family photographs into a collective archive, intertwining personal history with studies on how technology influences memory. By optimizing information and color, I weave pixels that symbolize the compression of memories, resulting in landscapes
submerged between reality and fiction. This process reflects how memories fade, become distorted, and are abstracted over time. Even in this compression, beauty emerges from the dance between what we remember and what we forget.

這項作品將家庭照片匯集為一個集體檔案庫，將個人歷史與科技如何影響記憶的研究交織在一起。透過優化資訊與色彩，我編織出象徵記憶壓縮的像素，從而呈現出游走於現實與虛構之間的景觀。這個過程反映了記憶如何隨時間流逝而淡去、扭曲並被抽象化。即使在這種壓縮之中，美依然從我們所記得與所遺忘的事物之間的交織中浮現。

First Time I Died

This self-portrait captures the raw vulnerability of pregnancy and the profound transformation of childbirth. By digitally altering and repeating the image, I mimic the shifting loops of memory, while the gel transfer texture blurs the lines like the passage of time. This work explores the” death “of the former self and the rebirth of the mother—a silent, powerful transition where identity shifts, finding beauty in the grief of what is lost.

這幅自畫像捕捉了懷孕時那份赤裸的脆弱，以及分娩帶來的深刻蛻變。透過數位修圖與圖像重複，我模擬了記憶中不斷變幻的迴圈；而凝膠轉印的質感則如時光流逝般，模糊了界線。這件作品探討了舊我「死亡」與母親重生的過程——這是一場靜默而強大的轉變，在身份認同的轉換中，於失去之物的悲傷中尋得美。

Exhibiting Artists Profiles - Ane Alfeiran

Ane Alfeiran is a Mexican visual artist based in Hong Kong. She explores memory, identity, and collective consciousness through an intercultural lens. Her practice examines how cultural environments rewrite personal and collective narratives. A graduate of HKU with diverse training in calligraphy and curation, Alfeiran’s recent milestones include the Soho House HK Residency (2025) and co-founding Xoloplastics. Her work bridges continents, blending social activism with a deep investigation into how we shape our shared history.

Ane Alfeiran 是一位定居香港的墨西哥視覺藝術家。她透過跨文化的視角，探索記憶、身份認同與集體意識。她的創作實踐著眼於文化環境如何重寫個人與集體的敘事。阿爾費蘭畢業於香港大學，在書法與策展領域接受過多元訓練，近期的重要成就包括獲選為 Soho House 香港駐村藝術家（2025年），以及共同創辦 Xoloplastics。她的作品跨越各大洲，將社會行動主義與對人類如何形塑共同歷史的深度探究相融合。

This painting-collage was inspired by a souvenir. I reflected on my family, places, and my journey leading me to Hong Kong. Past, present, and future are interconnected. Absence is now utterly present. The delight of using and coalescing materials was aligned with this voyage, and together they convey a feeling of a full circle of my life.

這幅繪畫拼貼作品的靈感來自於一件紀念品。我從中回想起我的家人去過的地方，以及我來到香港的旅程。過去、現在和未來相互交織,缺席如今已然完全臨在。運用和融合各種材料的樂趣與這段旅程相契合，它們共同傳遞出我生命圓滿的感受。

Gisèle Tchitchiama is a French interdisciplinary artist based in Hong Kong since 2005. She is an artist in residence at HART. Her artistic practice is best-known for investigating the allure of freedom, questioning the identity and memory in her pictorial and abstract universe.
Acrylic, pastels, recycled materials, collages and installations including photography and music informs Tchitchiama’s work in a way that dictates a universal language of our minds. The artist’s world encompasses the essence of expression, purity and spirituality.

Returned home under the curtains of night,
There was a bowl of pitted grapes sat inside the fridge light.
Raid in the stomach from the pain of emotions,
The medicines of peace stand In the second role of the cabinet.
It turns out to be
the days without fruits, the illness would befall;
dust filter must be cleaned, the allergies missed;
the early summer that folds by the fragrance leaves,
contains the taste of home within.

深夜回家打開冰箱一碗已挑核的提子
情緒突襲肚子劇痛櫃子第二格的平安藥
原來沒有水果的日子會特別容易生病
原來隔塵網需要定期清理才能避免過敏
原來初夏糉葉的清香是家的味道。

Like Lathe, Like Stylus

Part of Damian Boylan’s Fire Paintings series, Like Lathe, Like Stylus uses combustion and compressed air to explore inherited familial patterns. By carbonizing wood to create grooves resembling a vinyl record, Boylan creates a metaphor for how character and temperament pass between generations. The work reflects on the artist’s relationship with his father and his own son, using brass accents to symbolize the delicate, inevitable interplay between ancestral influence and individual autonomy.

Damian Boylan 火繪系列的一部分，如車床，如唱針運用燃燒與壓縮空氣，探索代代相傳的家族模式。博伊蘭透過將木材碳化形成宛如黑膠唱片的凹槽，以此隱喻性格與氣質如何在世代間流傳。這件作品反思了藝術家與其父親及自己兒子的關係，並運用黃銅裝飾，象徵祖先影響與個人自主性之間那微妙而必然的互動。
