Swiss and UK practices Éric Maria Architectes and HTA Design have been selected through an international design competition to transform the Bassenges Estate in Switzerland into the new Bernoulli Centre for the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The winning scheme will repurpose the historic buildings in the Bassenges complex, creating a dynamic world-class research hub. Inspired by the site's natural and cultural history in the Lac Léman basin, the vision introduces a biodiverse landscape that expands EPFL's campus offering, making it a destination for both the Academia and the wider community. Our design concept reinstates the Renaissance idea of ‘The Three Natures’- wilderness, agriculture, and the garden - working together as a palimpsest to maximise spaces for people, wildlife, and food production. The masterplan draws from the estate’s historic layout by reinstating building hierarchies and restoring direct connections between architecture and open spaces. By blending heritage restoration with thoughtful new interventions, the design celebrates the site’s distinctive character while welcoming students, researchers, and visitors alike. .rous, Landscape Design Director, HTA Design, said: “Our vision for the Bernoulli Centre is to create an attractive and well-connected biophilic landscape for the use of both the international Academia and local community, enhancing biodiversity and promoting eco-agriculture. Drahtfabrik Magstadt - Revitalisierung eines Industrieareals als Chance für die Kleinstadt

Die Arbeit befasst sich mit der Umgestaltung eines aufgegebenen Industrieareals im inner(klein-)städtischen Kontext. Der heterogene Ort der Drahtfabrik inmitten von Wohnbebauung ist dabei Ausgangspunkt für Überlegungen zum Umgang mit dem industriellen und landwirtschaftlichen Erbe der Kleinstadt Magstadt. Gleichzeitig soll das neue Drahtfabrik Areal einen Gegenentwurf zur monofunktionalen Suburbanisierung der polyzentrischen Metropolregion Stuttgart darstellen und stattdessen einen Startpunkt für die schonende Revitalisierung der Kleinstadt durch Nutzungsmischung und Identitätsbewahrung anbieten.

Quelques images que nous avons développé dans le cadre d’une Étude préconceptuelle pour la création de salles de toilettes inclusives «nouvelles générations» ainsi que la revitalisation des salles de toilettes genrées existantes dans les pavillons Hall, EV & LB de l’université Concordia.

L’approche conceptuelle proposée met de l’avant un espace ouvert et fluide qui est partagé par l’ensemble des utilisateurs. Les toilettes et les vestiaires non genrés deviennent rapidement une norme dans de nombreuses institutions publiques. Cette pratique est souvent liée aux principes de la conception “universelle” qui visent à normaliser l’accessibilité pour tous les utilisateurs. La conception universelle vise à offrir une expérience cohérente à tous les utilisateurs tout en donnant la priorité à la sécurité, au respect de la vie privée et à l’accessibilité ; ces objectifs sont atteints, en partie, en supprimant les obstacles à l’accès fondés sur l’identité individuelle.
