U(R)TOPIAS ΜΕMOIR

Δυο χρόνια πριν περπατήσαμε μαζί στην Ελευσίνα. Εκεί όπου μοιραστήκαμε αυτά που βρήκαμε και αυτά που ο τόπος μας έδειξε. Δυο χρόνια μετά, καλούμαστε να την περπατήσουμε για άλλη μια φορά και να δούμε τι ακόμα έχει να μας πει.

“Μέσα από φωνητικά μοτίβα, ρυθμικές χειρονομίες, αυτοσχεδιασμούς και επαναλαμβανόμενες δομές, ξεδιπλώνεται η εμπειρία του να μεγαλώνεις στην πόλη της Ελευσίνας, ως προσωπική μνήμη και καθολικό ερώτημα: Ποια φωνή μέσα μας μάς κινεί; Ποια φωνή μέσα μας μάς φροντίζει;
Ο Χ. κινούμενος μεταξύ σιωπής και κραυγής, αναζητά ένα σημείο ισορροπίας. Η φωνή της Μ. γίνεται καθρέφτης, μητρική ανάμνηση, φίλτρο – άλλοτε οδηγεί, άλλοτε συγκρατεί, άλλοτε προκαλεί. Ο ρυθμός του μετρονόμου γίνεται χτύπος καρδιάς, εργαλείο μετάβασης.

Το έργο δεν αφηγείται μια ιστορία. Είναι το ίδιο η διαδικασία γέννησής της. Μέσα από το ελάχιστο, προς το γιγαντιαίο.”

“Through vocal patterns, rythmic gestures, improvisations and repeated structures, the experience of growing up in Elefsina is revealed, as a personal memory and broad question: Which voice is the one that moves us? Which is the one that takes care of us?
X., moving amidst silence and screaming, searches for a point of balance. M.’s voice becomes a mirror, a motherly memory, a filter that sometimes guides, sometimes restricts, sometimes challenges. The metronome’s rythm becomes the beating of a heart, a tool for transition.

The performance does not tell a story. It is in itself the process of its actual creation. Through the small, towards the enormous.”

‘Όταν ήμουν παιδί, η μητέρα μου – που τότε δεν μιλούσε ακόμα καλά ελληνικά – έβλεπε μαζί μου τον Ντάμπο στην τηλεόραση. Δεν καταλάβαινε τα λόγια, αλλά με πήρε αγκαλιά και μου είπε ότι μια μέρα θα πετάξω κι εγώ, μακριά απ’ την πόλη.’

“Το έργο εστιάζει στην ακρόαση της φωνής που αναδύεται από μέσα μας, όταν όλα γύρω σωπαίνουν. Φέρνει στο προσκήνιο μια διαρκή παλινδρόμηση μεταξύ ευθραυστότητας και αποφασιστικότητας, ένα σώμα που σμιλεύεται από τη φωνή του. “

‘When I was a kid, my mother - back then she wasn’t able to speak Greek well - was watching “Dumbo” with me on television. She did not understand the words but, took me into her arms and told me that one day I will fly too, away from the city.’

“The performance focuses on listening to the voice that derives from within us, when everything around us stays silent. It brings to the foreground a continuous retrogression between being fragile and decisive, a body that is shaped by its own voice.”

“Οι εμπειρίες μας μπορούν να μας ραγίσουν, ακόμα και να μας κάνουν να χάσουμε κομμάτια του εαυτού μας.
Πόσο απαραίτητη είναι τελικά αυτή η διαδικασία, έτσι ώστε να σπάσουμε το δικό μας “τσιμέντο” και να ελευθερωθούμε;”

“Εμπνευσμένο από τις γυναίκες που εργάστηκαν στο εργοστάσιο ΤΙΤΑΝ στην Ελευσίνα, το Collect Yourself εξερευνά τη σύνδεση μεταξύ ανθρώπων και τσιμέντου, χρησιμοποιώντας το τσιμέντο ως μεταφορά για την ανθρώπινη εμπειρία και την προσωπική εξέλιξη.
Όπως το τσιμέντο σκληραίνει μέσα από μια διαδικασία, έτσι και οι άνθρωποι σκληραίνουν μέσα από τις εμπειρίες τους.”

“Inspired by the women that worked at the “TITAN” factory in Elefsina, “Collect Yourself” explores the connection between people and cement, using the material as a metaphor for the human experience and personal developement.

“Η ησυχία του σώματος στη διαδικασία της εντατικής προσπάθειας, ένας ορισμένος χώρος με αόριστες δυνατότητες, συντελούν πεδίο μάχης, προσευχής, αγανάκτησης, υπόσχεσης πως δεν εγκαταλείπουμε πριν τα δώσουμε όλα στην αταξία της τρυφερότητας. Ένα τραγούδι αφιερωμένο στην Ελευσίνα που πληγώνει και πληγώνεται, μια ονειρική μετάβαση στο άπιαστο όνειρο, στη διέξοδο, στη στιγμή που το σώμα είναι τα πάντα και τίποτα, στην κούραση, στην ελπίδα, στην αγανάκτηση, σ’ ένα υπερβατικό βήμα προς το άγνωστο.”

“The silence of the body within the process of intense effort, a precise space with vage possibilities, they all become a field of battle, prayer, frustration, promise, that we do not let go before we give it our all for the disorder of tenderness. “Τι συμβαίνει σε έναν τόπο, όπου όλα έχουν ήδη συμβεί;

Από την πραγματικότητα μιας αυλής, επισκέπτομαι τον τόπο που συντελείται η σωματική εξάντληση με σκοπό τη μεταμόρφωση και την αναμονή ενός μυστηριώδους “κάτι”, ερευνώντας πώς η φαντασία επιστρατεύεται ως μέσο επιβίωσης κι αλλαγής.”

“What happens in a place where everything has already happened?

From the reality of a yard, I visit the place that physical exhaustion transpires in order to transform and remains in wait for something mysterious, exploring how imagination is employed as a means for survival and change.”
