20 Years of P260 | The creative duo of Heiner Goebbels and Michael Simon opens Peiraios 260 on 29 May — two artists who, for decades, have been transforming the relationship between music and theatre, sound and space.
Goebbels began his artistic journey in the 1970s by founding the “Left Radical Wind Orchestra” (Sogenanntes Linksradikales Blasorchester) and the experimental rock band Cassiber. At the same time, he was writing and performing music for demonstrations and political activist actions.
From the 1980s onwards, he started composing and directing works for radio, many of them based on texts by Heiner Müller, while in 1995 he came to Greece for the first time to present The Liberation of Prometheus at the Ancient Stadium of Delphi.
Alongside him is Michael Simon, whose work dissolves the boundaries between artistic disciplines, spanning opera, theatre, and ballet. In his scenic universe, the stage functions like a living organism: vast surfaces, slowly moving walls, and tilting platforms constantly transform the space and the audience’s experience. During the 1980s, he worked as an assistant set designer to Robert Wilson before becoming internationally renowned through his long-standing collaboration with William Forsythe at Ballett Frankfurt.
Rejecting traditional psychological theatre, Goebbels creates polyphonic worlds free from didacticism, where the audience is invited to move freely between sound, image, and movement. In 2001, he was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Small Ensemble Performance, while in 2012, he received the International Ibsen Award, one of the world’s most prestigious distinctions for theatre makers. In March 2026, he transformed Mumbai’s iconic Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum into a living sonic sculpture with the project Landscape Plays.
