Naturama Stardun

Naturama Stardun Ricardo Jarama (Lima, 1974) is a Peruvian artist who has been living and working in Athens since 2007. For me, everything starts with drawing.

He was trained at the Escuela Nacional Superior Autonoma de Bellas Artes del Peru, where he specialised in sculpture and drawing. I am Ricardo Jarama, a Peruvian artist who has been living and working in Athens since 2007. I was trained at the Escuela Nacional Superior Autonoma de Bellas Artes de Peru, where I specialised in sculpture and drawing. In Peru, I mainly made abstract sculptures in diff

erent types of stone, in combination with wood and metal. Since moving to Athens, I have mainly made figurative paintings and drawings, and sculptures as well. A special aspect of my working method is that I complete the final versions of my drawings and paintings in my sketchbooks. My sketchbooks contain completed drawings. I transfer some of them onto a canvas or panel in acrylic paint, or onto a larger-sized piece of paper in mixed media. The sketchbooks are my treasure troves. Several series have emerged from them in the past decades, which merge into each other in terms of content and style, and continue to develop. These series are, in chronological order, Naturama, Koko, Futuro and the most recent, which is still in an early stage, La Super Realidad.

“La Caracola Dorada”, meaning “The Golden Shell”, belongs to the series “La Pesca Mitologica (Mythological Fishing)”. In this series, sculpture is used to represent different myths and legends from the worldview of the coastal peoples of Peru. La Caracola Dorada is a sculpture that symbolizes the origin of everything as a cosmic egg. In the artist’s opinion, life emerged from the seas, and this sculpture represents that beginning. This piece was created with Andean marble chosen especially for this work.
