Η Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Χορού, που γιορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο στις 29 Απριλίου, δεν είναι απλώς μια εορτή της τέχνης είναι μια υπενθύμιση ότι ο χορός υπήρξε ανέκαθεν μια παγκόσμια γλώσσα, πέρα από σύνορα, πολιτισμούς και εποχές.
Η επιλογή της ημέρας συνδέεται με τον Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), έναν από τους πρώτους που αντιλήφθηκαν τον χορό ως ζωντανή αφήγηση της ανθρώπινης εμπειρίας.
Ο χορός, όπως τον αντιλαμβάνομαι, δεν είναι διασκέδαση ούτε απλή σωματική έκφραση.
Είναι μια επιστροφή.
Μια επιστροφή σε κάτι αρχέγονο που προϋπήρχε της λέξης, της σκέψης, της ταυτότητας.
Πριν από κάθε πολιτισμική δομή, ο άνθρωπος χόρευε για να θυμηθεί ποιος είναι.
Στον πυρήνα του, το Ecstatic Dance δεν είναι (event), ούτε μουσικό είδος.
Είναι πεδίο.
Ένα ζωντανό, συλλογικό πεδίο όπου το σώμα γίνεται γλώσσα και η κίνηση γίνεται προσευχή.
Εκεί, δεν χορεύουμε για να δείξουμε, αλλά για να αφεθούμε.
Δεν κινούμαστε για να εντυπωσιάσουμε, αλλά για να αποκαλυφθούμε πρώτα στον εαυτό μας και μετά στον κύκλο.
Αφιερώνω αυτό το κείμενο στον Daniel Bofill, ιδρυτή του Ecstatic Dance Athens, που κράτησε και συνεχίζει να κρατά τον χώρο για αυτή τη βαθιά, συλλογική εμπειρία.
Σε ανθρώπους που δεν είδαν τον χορό ως διασκέδαση, αλλά ως πρακτική αφύπνισης.
Στις αγαπημένες φίλες και συνεργάτιδες, Μαριάννα Τσαγκαράκη και Ευτυχία Ανυφαντή, συνοδοιπόρους σε αυτό το μονοπάτι, που με την παρουσία, την ευαισθησία και τη δύναμή τους συμβάλλουν στη δημιουργία ενός αυθεντικού, ζωντανού κύκλου.
Η φιλοσοφία μου για τον χορό στηρίζεται σε τρεις άξονες.
Ο πρώτος είναι η αποδόμηση.
Αφήνουμε πίσω ρόλους, προσδοκίες, αισθητικές νόρμες.
Το (σωστό), και το (λάθος), παύουν να υπάρχουν.
Το σώμα απελευθερώνεται από την επιτήρηση του νου και επιστρέφει σε μια αυθεντική, ενσώματη νοημοσύνη.
Ο δεύτερος είναι η ενσώματη παρουσία.
Ο χορός γίνεται διαλογισμός εν κινήσει.
Δεν πρόκειται για διαφυγή, αλλά για βαθιά είσοδο στο τώρα.
Η αναπνοή, ο παλμός, ο ρυθμός όλα συγχρονίζονται σε μια εμπειρία όπου το σώμα δεν είναι αντικείμενο, αλλά πύλη.
Ο τρίτος είναι η συλλογική συνείδηση.
Το Ecstatic Dance δεν είναι ατομική εμπειρία.
Είναι τελετουργία κοινότητας.
Ένας κύκλος όπου τα σώματα συντονίζονται, όχι απαραίτητα ομοιόμορφα, αλλά αληθινά.
Εκεί γεννιέται μια μορφή επικοινωνίας πέρα από λόγια μια πρωτογενής ανθρώπινη σύνδεση.
Ως DJ και εμψυχωτής, δεν βλέπω τον εαυτό μου ως (performer), αλλά ως φορέα του πεδίου.
Ο ρόλος μου είναι να κρατώ τον χώρο, να αφουγκράζομαι την ενέργεια και να οδηγώ το ταξίδι μέσα από τον ήχο από τη γείωση στην κορύφωση και ξανά στην επιστροφή.
Η μουσική δεν είναι διακόσμηση είναι εργαλείο μεταμόρφωσης.
Το Ecstatic Dance είναι μια σύγχρονη μορφή αρχαίας τελετουργίας.
Φέρει μέσα του στοιχεία σαμανισμού, διαλογισμού και συλλογικής κάθαρσης.
Σε έναν κόσμο που αποσυνδέεται ολοένα και περισσότερο, ο χορός γίνεται πράξη αντίστασης.
Μια πράξη επανασύνδεσης με το σώμα, με τον άλλον, με το Όλον.
Και τελικά, δεν είναι ότι (χορεύουμε).
Είναι ότι αφήνουμε κάτι βαθύτερο να χορέψει μέσα από εμάς.

International Dance Day, celebrated every year on April 29, is not merely a celebration of art it is a reminder that dance has always been a universal language, beyond borders, cultures, and eras.
The choice of this date is linked to Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), one of the first to perceive dance as a living narrative of human experience.
Dance, as I understand it, is neither entertainment nor mere physical expression.
It is a return.
A return to something primordial that existed before language, before thought, before identity.
Before any cultural structure, humans danced to remember who they are.
At its core, Ecstatic Dance is not an (event), or a music genre.
It is a field. A living, collective field where the body becomes language and movement becomes prayer.
There, we do not dance to perform, but to surrender.
We do not move to impress, but to reveal, first to ourselves, and then to the circle.
I dedicate this text to Daniel Bofill, founder of Ecstatic Dance Athens, who has held and continues to hold space for this profound collective experience.
To those who did not see dance as entertainment, but as a practice of awakening.
To my beloved friends and collaborators, Marianna Tsagkaraki and Eftychia Anyfanti, companions on this path, whose presence, sensitivity, and strength contribute to the creation of an authentic, living circle.
My philosophy of dance is grounded in three core principles.
The first is deconstruction.
We leave behind roles, expectations, aesthetic norms.
(Right), and (wrong), cease to exist.
The body is freed from the surveillance of the mind and returns to an authentic, embodied intelligence.
The second is embodied presence.
Dance becomes meditation in motion.
It is not an escape, but a deep entry into the now.
Breath, pulse, rhythm all synchronize into an experience where the body is not an object, but a gateway.
The third is collective consciousness.
Ecstatic Dance is not an individual experience.
It is a communal ritual.
A circle where bodies resonate, not necessarily in uniformity, but in truth.
There, a form of communication beyond words is born a primordial human connection.
As a DJ and facilitator, I do not see myself as a performer, but as a carrier of the field.
My role is to hold the space, to listen to the energy, and to guide the journey through sound from grounding to peak and back to return.
Music is not decoration,
it is a tool for transformation.
Ecstatic Dance is a contemporary form of ancient ritual.
It carries elements of shamanism, meditation, and collective catharsis.
In a world that is increasingly disconnected, dance becomes an act of resistance.
An act of reconnection with the body, with others, with the Whole.
And ultimately, it is not that (we dance).
It is that we allow something deeper to dance through us.
