She cried when she realized that was alll it was.
She heard her name and put on her dress to work.
She swept and cleaned the house before she was allowed to eat. She that used to pick when and what she would eat.
He kissed her , ran his hands over her mouth and moved closer. She felt herself melting into him then she woke up and dropped the spoon in her hand. It took her moments to realize where she was.

She strutted there stuff m, like she was on the walkway in Spain.
Swayed left and right then swung her hips side to side.
Suddenly she woke up and she realized she was in her bed. The dreams of Spain were just that, a dream……

ORANGE JUiCE 1

The man was at his wits end, everywhere he went she turned up and asked him for more sweet orange juice.
His business meetings were disrupted, his place of worship and town union meetings were not off limits to her. The most humiliating part of it was her ragged appearance.
His success and wealth seemed like nothing, she had succeeded in rendering him useless and spoiling his life outside of money making.
The worst thing was she shunned all the exotic orange drinks he offered her and seemed to want to attack him physically whenever she saw him.
Her rage was such that she seemed to possess the strength of 10 men and it took 5 bodyguards to subdue her.
She hung around all the places he stayed, his palatial houses, his offices, the various clubs he belonged to and even his Church.
His village had become a no go zone after she turned up and announced she wanted orange juice from him.
Ordinarily he should have been a sought after potential husband but his proposals were met with rejection because of his self ordained Aide de camp.

There was no shrine he had not visited to rid himself of the problem, no Pastor he had not consulted.
They assured him his problems were over, collected his money and it was the same old story.
He had even bathed naked in Rivers, Niger, Sombreiro, Nicholas and Nun to no avail.
He relocated from Lagos to Abuja, then to Portharcourt.
Just when he allowed himself a glimmer of hope after each move, she turned up. Even when he travelled and stayed away for extended periods, she turned up.
She had no shame, flogging was useless, she seemed to thrive on the pain.

Midnight visitor

The woman woke up with a start, for a second she was confused and unsure of where she was. She reached out for her husband and frowned when her hand made contact with a cold pillow.
She fought down her feelings of irritation which were bubbling to the surface, her main prayer point at Brother secondus’ daily revival was for them to leave the shared facilities of yard life and move into a place with it’s own toilet and kitchen.
She felt the familiar pressure in her bladder and got up to ease herself.
She navigated the passage avoiding shoes and cooking utensils lining her path. She did this in NEPA induced darkness . Why NEPA could not obey a simple command ‘let there be light’ was beyond her.
She reached out to open the door smiling at the thought of baptizing Mama Nkechi’s scent leaf bush. Anytime the quarrelsome woman rained invectives on her, the only response she gave was a secret smile at her human catheter bag happy in her secret knowledge.
Her hand stopped short of the door handle as she realized she was hearing voices.
She was about to burst out and catch Remigus with his Bae when the meaning of the words she was hearing sank in. She realized she was witnessing and robbery in progress as she made out a man backing her and pointing a gun at Remigus who had his hands up in surrender.
Before she could stop herself, she opened the door and grabbed the man from behind.
She wrapped her ample arms (Remigus called them Christian mother arms) around his midsection and squeezed imagining it was Mama Nkechi she was handling.
It was all so unexpected he squealed and dropped his gun. Remigus went into action hero mode and picked it up, the hunter now became the hunted.

“Thief, thief, thief” she screamed at the top of her voice. A crowd ran out and the men took over after sending their womenfolk indoors.
The night was filled with anguished screaming and cries of pain followed by silence.

In the morning Remigus filled her in on events that followed the “great capture”. The youths took over and they were without mercy. After extended torturing the criminal gave up his cohorts who funnily enough lived in the neighborhood. The pulled them out one by one, recorded their confessions, cut of their limbs and used them as kindling for a massive bonfire.
The area became the safest in the town with no robberies or even pilfering.
Residents spoke in hushed tones about the night of the great purge.
Mama Nkechi changed and became her best friend and biggest supporter so she stopped her nocturnal watering of the woman’s scent leaf bush.

Covid Chronicles 5
I tested negative on 16/1/21 but that was not the end of my tango with COVID.
I am weak and feel tired all the time.
My appetite funny enough is healthy and I eat like a contestant in an eatathon.
My husband tested positive ( my girls came up negative)and he suffered a great deal of discomfort but does not suffer from the tiredness.
We own enough medical equipment to equip a day clinic and have become knowledgeable about monitoring our vital statistics.
COVID is real and should be taken seriously.
I learnt it will take a few months for this chronic fatigue to pass and my strength levels to return to normal.
When I watch the news and see the figures, I am grateful to be among the living and feel I got off lightly.
All the COVID survivors I spoke to complain of the tiredness so I am not alone.
Social distance, mask up, wash your hands constantly and use your sanitizer.
The ripple effect is devastating and you may be saving more lives than you think.

COVID chronicles 4
Day 8 ( 2 days to my test yaaaay) and I’m still feeling human. I never knew staying in one place could drain one’s strength as much as being physically active.
I think the lack of exercise is getting to me after years of daily workouts. I can’t wait to put this behind me and resume my daily routines.
I’ve learnt that being idle rich would do me in.
I got up and had a shower at daybreak, combed my hair and made myself presentable( no more lounging about in my pajamas ).
My vitals are still the same (good). We have built up an arsenal of medical hardware any health practitioner would be proud to own.
I learnt to check if my blood oxygen levels are too low by taking a deep breath and counting 30 before taking another one.
It was bittersweet watching the vaccine being administered. I can only get it after 28 days of being COVID free so .........
I’ve settled down in my settee and am ready for another day in front of the tv with my Android on my right, my phone on my left and a book in between.
My creative juices are flowing and I’m doing a lot of writing. Social media has been a real lifeline for me( I can’t remember life before it).
So far so good, everyone is alright and in good spirits.
The news and figures I hear make me thankful for life and love.
Stay safe and have a good day.

COVID Chronicles 3
Day 6 and I’m still asymptomatic (fingers crossed). My stats are good (so far)and I’m in a good place mentally ( optimistic and cheerful as always and buoyed up by my feelings of invincibility).
It’s funny how each of us feels our own is different and negativity is not our portion.
I feel a tiny bit of tightness in my chest but I don’t know if I’m truly feeling it because it’s there or if it’s psychological.
I scan my body mentally and give 10 interpretations to every twinge I feel.
I’ve read up so much on COVID that I feel well informed enough to prepare a thesis on it for a post graduate thesis. At times too much research is scary while ignorance is bliss but hey bliss is boring.
I’ve set up office on my sofa in front of the tv and am considering changing career to become a world affairs analyst ( with the amount of global news I have absorbed).
My appetite has not been affected by the enemy (COVID), it actually seems to have increased and I’m eating everything in sight.
I miss working out (5 days and no exercise). I have been instructed not to put my body under any pressure.
Everyone is good with no symptoms, we are enjoying being together.
The girls are starting online learning today on the platforms of their respective schools so they will keep regular school hours and not fall behind in their learning.
The Vaccine has landed in Gibraltar. It was a bittersweet moment for me knowing that I would have been among the early recipients if not for my diagnosis.
The world and life as we know it has changed beyond recognition and we have to adapt to the new normal.
Have a great day and stay safe.

COVID Chronicles 1
I’m sitting in my living room pondering my fate.
I wore my masks and face shields, got tested virtually everyday ( courtesy of my job),I social distanced, I wore gloves all the time, I washed my hands regularly and used sanitizer so often my skin peeled.Where did I go wrong?

I stared at the COVID test result on my phone and pondered over my fate.
After dodging the bullet for over a year and having just given my consent to having the vaccine, I thought I had won the battle.
God really disposes while puny man only proposes.

I’m over brooding and have looked at the pros and cons of my situation.
No need to brood over something I can’t change, I am preparing myself for the war ahead.

So far ( fingers crossed) I’m asymptomatic.
I have access to excellent healthcare (courtesy of the Government of Gibraltar). My Naija hoarding spirit has ensured my larder and freezers are fully stocked so food is plentiful ( I must point out the benefits of my compulsive bulk buying my husband always criticizes)
We had already cut out all non essential outside movement so 10 days self isolation will be no hardship.
My girls are worried and my younger daughter is searching for articles on surviving COVID.
She has a morbid fascination with survival and lectured us on surviving earthquakes, tsunamis, car crashes, plane crashes and so many other possible ways to die that we should be death proof.
I am gloved and masked up in the slim hope my family may be uninfected (fingers crossed)
After 10 days of confinement we will get tested and hopefully get on with our lives.
I feel normal and strong, no symptoms apart from mentally scanning my body and analyzing every twinge I feel.
1st day of Isolation over and 9 to go. So far so good.

I have resolved to keep an online COVID diary to share my experience and hopefully people can learn a few things from my misadventures.

I have been Down but not out with COVID.
I am negative now and will share my online account of my journey

Another Boomerang
The girl stuck out her thumb in the universal sign language of hitchhikers.
She needed to get hone but had exhausted her pocket money so she had gone to the spot her friends had told her it was easy to get a lift from.
University students were always broke and had referred to the spot as Lagos by air because one could easily get a lift and arrive in Lagos in a matter of a few hours.
Her father was very generous and lavished a lot of money on her. He had warned her never to “fly Lagos by air” and always pay for a seat on the bus of a reputable transporter. She smiled as she anticipated his surprise when he would discover she had “traveled by air”.
A honking sound brought her out of her reverie and she walked towards the Mercedes Benz 190 coupe that had stopped close to where she stood.

She laughed at another of his jokes. Remigus( her benefactor’s name) had put her at ease within minutes of her accepting his offer.
He was funny and had made her laugh so much her insides were aching.
She reached for the drink he offered her and had taken a gulp before it struck her that the bottle had already been opened.
As the realization struck her the bottle fell from her suddenly nerveless fingers and she watched it cartwheel to the format under her feet in slow motion,
She tried to look at her benefactor but everything went fuzzy as she blacked out.
The man walked into the hut and shook hands with Remigus “well done you got this one in record time”.
Remigus smiled at the compliment and drew back the white sheet to show off his handwork.
The silence was deafening then with a primal scream of agony the man dropped to his knees and cradled his only daughter in his arms as the tears rolled unchecked down his cheeks.
