Dagbon, our proud and historic kingdom, has long been known for its rich culture, bravery, and wisdom. Yet, in recent decades, our image has been darkened by one painful reality β the chieftaincy conflict between the Abudu and Andani gates.
While peace efforts have yielded progress in recent years, there are growing concerns about attempts to renew these conflicts.
As sons and daughters of Dagbon β whether we are youth, elders, opinion leaders, or chiefs β we must understand the dangers of reigniting these divisions and take a firm stand against it.
First, the return to chieftaincy conflict threatens the very stability of our land. It risks lives, destroys property, divides families, and leaves behind generations traumatized by war.
No one wins in such a conflict β only pain and backwardness prevail.
Young people are the most affected, losing opportunities to education, employment, and a secure future.
Second, our continued division paints a damaging picture of Dagbon to the rest of Ghana and beyond.
Many tribes and regions now see us as a people who love violence β who value blood over peace, and destruction over dialogue.
Investors shy away from us, tourists avoid our rich cultural heritage, and even governments hesitate to initiate key development projects in our areas.
We cannot continue to allow Abudu and Andani differences to be an excuse for underdevelopment.
Moreover, while we remain busy fighting each other, other regions are uniting, developing, educating their children, and building their economies.
We must ask ourselves: for how long shall we continue to fight among ourselves while others prosper? Is this the legacy we want to leave behind for the next generation?
As youth, we must reject being used as tools for violence. As elders and opinion leaders, we must speak the truth and promote reconciliation.
And as chiefs, we must lead with wisdom and put the future of Dagbon above personal interest.
True leadership is not about taking sides but building unity.
In conclusion, the time has come for Dagbon to say βnever againβ to conflict. Let us choose peace, unity, and development over division.
Let us show Ghana and the world that Dagbon is not a land of violence, but a land of proud people with a rich past and a bright future β united, not by Abudu or Andani, but by Dagbon.
Peace is the greatest inheritance we can give our children.
And let us all come together to support the Gbewaa palace project initiated by "N'Dan Yaana Bukari"
Nawuni Dolimi a nyevuli.
