LETβS ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THAT ADOAGYIRI BELONGS TO AKYEM ABUAKWA.
SIX CHIEFS PROTEST TO MINISTER
The Chiefs of Adoagyiri, Sakyikrom, Darman, Krabokese, Takoko and Teachermante have protested to Mr. E. O. Asafu-Adjaye, Minister of Local Government, against being included in the proposed Nsawam Urban Council.
They are asking that their group should be formed into a separate local council.
The Chiefs gave as their reason the fact that NANA KWADJO DOMPREH III Chief of Adoagyiri, is the Ankobeahene of Akim Kotoku and also that Nana Sakyi Agyakwa III is the Krontihene of Akwamu.
They also stated that the Darmanhene, Barima Ohene Ansah II, had been raised to the rank of a Divisional Chief by the Omanhene of Akim Abuakwa under the Gyasehene of Akim Abuakwa, and that their people were not prepared to have them serving under the Odikro of Nsawam who is in the Akwapim State.
THERE ARE ALSO ECONOMIC REASONS.
THE CHIEFS OF ADOAGYIRI, SAKYIKROM, DARMAN, KRABOKESE, SAHURUM, KOJO PANY, TEACHERMANTE, CHICHIWERE, YAKOKO, KWASI NYARKU, ADWENSA AND ADJACENT TOWNS AND VILLAGES HAVE FOR MANY YEARS OWNED ONE TREASURY UNDER THE AKIM ABUAKWA NATIVE AUTHORITY AND HAVE BEEN ACCUSTOMED TO WORKING TOGETHER. THEY HAVE ALWAYS HAD ONE NATIVE COURT.
They pointed out that, while Nsawam is highly commercialised, and while the people of Nsawam own valuable property, it would be unfair to tax the people of the small towns nearby at the same rate as that of the people of Nsawam. They feared that the taxes would be higher than they would be able to bear.
The petition was signed by many Chiefs and elders including NANA KWADJO DOMPREH III, Adoagyirihene; Nana Sakyi Agyakwa, Sakyikromhene; Barima Ohene Ansah II, Darmanhene; Kweku Ababio of Krabokese; T. D. DOMPREH , ABUSUAPANYIN OF ADOAGYIRI; and Kweku Akoto, Odikro of Aworoso.
