Eight things you (probably) didn’t know about Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla, is a Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artist who has taken the music world by storm.

Described in high-praise terms such as ‘king’ and ‘master of his craft’ by his peers in the industry, the man has the Midas touch when it comes to the winning hit-making formula, as his many number one singles will testify.

Here are eight facts you probably didn’t know about him:

One of 7 siblings
The artist was born in the Greater Accra region of Ghana into a family of seven siblings and fell in love with making music from young, using drama class and music class as a vehicle to express himself in school.

He has rocked stages from the UK to the USA, Australia, Italy, Puerto Rico, Amsterdam and beyond, making his electrifying touring an integral part of his career as he leaves it all on the stage for his fans.

In 2015, he received many awards and nominations, ranging from “Artist of the Year” to “Album of the Year”. His sophomore album, Necessary Evil, was the recipient of three Ghana Music Awards from six nominations. He is currently the TGMA Artist of the Year.

An actor in his own right

Alongside his slew of musical feats, there is no stopping a force such as Stonebwoy.

As well as acting in movies such as Happy Death Day and My Name Is Ramadan, he is a global ambassador for sanitation and a brand ambassador for Voltic Mineral Water and Tecno Mobile Ghana.

A national treasure

Stonebwoy is a national treasure in Ghana, and that’s just what his fans say. With over 4 million Instagram followers alone, we may be right as the world watches this celebrated reggae, dancehall, and Afro pop artist not only dominate the African continent, but also hold the world in his grasp.

Our feud with Kuami Eugene has been resolved - Keche

Ghanaian music duo Keche has addressed the past controversy surrounding their hit song 'No Dulling' with Kuami Eugene.

In an interview on TV3 on July 16, 2024, Keche clarified that the issues with Kuami Eugene have been resolved.

"With Kuami's issue, it's past. We’ve sorted that. We solved that issue,” they said.

Kuami Eugene, in a 2023 interview, asserted that he wrote the lyrics for the hit song. Keche, however, claimed that Andrew, one of the duo, wrote the song, disputing Kuami Eugene's involvement.

In response, Kuami Eugene, in an interview on the Delay Show, stated that he had written the entire song and that Keche only added a small part during the recording.

Despite the tension, Kuami Eugene expressed willingness to work with Keche again if requested, although their relationship has become strained since the controversy.

Shifting the conversation to their new collaboration with King Paluta, they emphasised that their new song titled 'My Father,' has been in the works for nearly two years and added that the collaboration with King Paluta was seamless.

"We just had to send a song to him and in a couple of days, he did his best. We didn't even meet at the studio," they shared.

Calling someone 'ashawo' does not define them - MC Yaa Yeboah reacts to Efia Odo-Sista Afia clash

Ghanaian media personality and entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah has expressed her disappointment over the use of derogatory slurs in public feuds between celebrities.

In a discussion on Accra-based Neat FM, she criticised musicians Sista Afia and Efia Odo for resorting to name-calling during their ongoing conflict.

MC Yaa Yeboah argued that being in multiple personal relationships does not label one as a "pr******te," thus such tags are unnecessary and harmful to one’s reputation.

"If I am romantically involved with someone, we break up, I get involved with another person and it also ends, is that a reason to be labelled a pr******te?" she questioned.

She stated that such labels do not define a person's character and urged celebrities, especially females, to avoid perpetuating negative stereotypes and to focus on facts rather than insults.

"It disappoints me that Sista Afia and Efia Odo can resort to such slurs. You can say it’s good for the media attention, but in the process, you are tarnishing each other’s reputation.

"It hurts me that when women are having a feud, they go about labelling each other as ‘ashawo’ and all that. That doesn't define anybody, just stick to facts," she added.

Her comments come amid a renewed feud between Sista Afia and Efia Odo, which has drawn significant media attention and public reaction.
