A Bit of Night School
Okumanini is the Title taken by any Paramount Chief who ascends the Affutuakwa Stool.
The current Paramount Chief of Affutuakwa Traditional Area and the President of Affutuakwa Traditional Council is Okumanini Baffour Asare Kyeahene II known in private life as ACI Isaiah Akomaming, a commissioned Senior Immigration Officer.
Now Some Historical Facts:
1. There is no Assin Foso Hene (Chief) but Affutuakwa Hene. This is because Assin Foso is the Political and Administrative Capital of Affutuakwa which is made up of almost 15-20 distinct communities with their own Chiefdoms.
2. Communities like Adanse Menang, Assin Darman, Assin Asaman, Assin Nuanua, Assin Adiembra, Assin Dompim, Assin Foso Dumase, Assin Foso Dantwe, Assin Foso Akrofuom, Assin Foso Bantama, Assin Foso Habitat, Assin Foso Pumpside, Assin Foso Techiman, Assin Foso Trafo, Assin Foso Butuase, Assin Foso Nkotom are part of Affutuakwa. All the above-mentioned Communities/Towns form the Affutuakwa State under one leadership, the Affutuakwahene now Okumanini Baffour Asare Kyeahene II.
3. People only know or mistakenly take Assin Foso as Affutuakwa but that is not the case. It's bigger than just Assin Foso. Affutuakwa has existed long before even the coming of Paramountcies like Atandansu and Owirenchi. I know it's a bit difficult to comprehend but that is the truth. Amongst towns like Nyankomasi Ahenkro (Atandansu) , Assin Juaso (Kosontire), Assin Nyankomasi (Aboabo) only Assin Juaso (Kosontire) came before Assin Foso (Affutuakwa). So the notion that Affutuakwa was formed in the 90s is amateurish.
Yes Affutuakwa left the Atandansu Union as an independent Traditional Council in the 90s but that does not mean that it was formed in the 90s. Affutuakwa was before most of the Assin People making it one of the oldest Akan settlers at the bank of Pra River.
