Introducing Magazine Conversations: Art & Coffee, which is Orà duku's first magazine experience, in collaboration with The Daily Grind Community Coffee Shop.

Forget scrolling through our magazines alone. This time, we're pulling the stories off the pages and putting them on the table, where you get to sit, sip, and actually talk about them with people who get it. We're diving into three(3) artworks to have real talk, real art, real coffee, and ask the questions we don't usually say out loud.

Among the Yoruba, ancestors remain part of the community, which is always brought to life through Egungun. The masquerade becomes a bridge between what is seen and what exists beyond sight. Historically connected to Old Oyo, one of the most influential Yoruba kingdoms that flourished between the 17th and 19th centuries, Egungun developed as a powerful expression of ancestral memory. Through elaborate costumes, movement, music, and ritual, communities preserved their histories, values, and identity across generations.

In Yɛ Man Enyɔ Aten (Between Two Worlds), a contemporary figurative work and cultural symbolism, Botchway transforms a centuries-old tradition into a contemporary visual narrative, positioning African heritage within the evolving language of global contemporary art.

A rare visual dialogue between form and feeling, Sweet Sisters holds itself as a work of quiet intensity, where emotional depth is rendered through contemporary African abstraction with restraint and clarity.

What unfolds is not simply the encounter of two figures, but a continuation of African visual thought, where stylisation carries truth, and simplicity becomes a vessel for memory, identity, and shared life.
