Kwame Asare Obeng has revealed plans to push for a nationwide legal review of prisoners’ cases after working on the proposed Paternity Fraud Bill.

According to the Gomoa Central MP, he intends to assemble a team of lawyers to examine cases across prisons in Ghana and appeal judgments where necessary to help secure the release of inmates who may have been wrongfully jailed or excessively sentenced.

said the recent reduction of **Patricia Asiedua Asiamah’s sentence from 15 years to one year highlights the possibility that some inmates may deserve appeals, pardons, or sentence reviews.

He also argued that poverty plays a major role in why many prisoners remain behind bars, stating that some cannot afford proper legal representation.
