Of all the transfer targets we missed, losing out on Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries hurts the most.

Let's put the banter aside for a second and be honest: the board got this one wrong.

We're heading into next season with KoundΓ© and Balde as our starting full-backs. After what happened to us in the Champions League over the last two seasons, strengthening the full-back positions should have been the club's No. 1 priorityβ€”or at the very least, No. 2.

Cucurella is, in my opinion, the second-best left-back in the world right now. He offers everything: solid defending, relentless attacking, press resistance, quick recovery runs, excellent deliveries into the box, and he's equally comfortable making overlaps and underlaps.

Dumfries is a different kind of monster. Powerful, relentless, and a constant attacking threat. I initially doubted his attacking quality, but after watching him with the Netherlands, I changed my mind completely. He can thrive in multiple systems and would have been a fantastic addition.

What makes it even more painful is that they've ended up with our direct rivals. As things stand, I don't see better full-back options available on the market than those two.

The board had a chance to fix one of Barcelona's biggest weaknessesβ€”and they let it slip away.
