30 years later under the vision of Anslem - Nani’s son, Kitengela Glass recycles and transforms scrap material mostly bottles and window glass from the building industry and discarded glasses into objects & designs that have a future, addresses a need, fulfil a functional desire & highlighting dalle de verre to be recognized. Beyond its artistic contributions, Kitengela Hot Glass plays a significant role in community empowerment.

As a brand shaped by Ghanaian tradition and a global circular future, CHIIP just like Kitengela is growing to be a movement — one that consciously rethreads culture, community, and craftsmanship. In the 1970s artist Nani Croze settled near the Nairobi National Park, captivated by the area’s natural beauty. In 1981, she founded Kitengela Glass, initially focusing on stained glass art. Over time, the studio expanded its repertoire to include various forms of glass artistry, such as mosaics, sculptures, and functional items, all crafted from recycled materials.

Nani’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community development became foundational principles of the enterprise, just like CHIIP, born from the spirit of cultural richness and creative rebellion, champions the reimagining of used fabrics. CHIIP transforms once-forgotten textiles and fabric waste into garments of identity, power, and playfulness.

This collaboration was more than a backdrop — it was a declaration. The crumbling mosaic paths, the molten furnaces, the stained glass corridors — all mirrored CHIIP’s mission: to reCHIIP the narrative around waste, culture, and beauty.
