“Roppongi Crossings” triennial international exhibition

From the exhibition’s intro text:

The subtitle of Roppongi Crossing 2025 -
“What Passes is Time. We Are Eternal.” - evokes the concept of “time.” At a fundamental level, “time” originates in the planetary and energetic movements of the vast cosmos, and a diverse range of cultural, religious, and geographical backgrounds, along with different eras, have given rise to a variety of debates on this topic. Taking this “time” as one axis, the exhibition explores the practices of twenty-one artists/artist groups through various perspectives. By juxtaposing each artist’s unique perspectives on time, space, and the world with one another, the exhibition may reveal something of the shape of “Japanese contemporary art” today.

The latest episode of “Curator and Keeper” is out now! This festively themed chat features The Revd Canon Maggie McLean from York Minster and focuses on art and faith, the connections between the Minster and our Art Collection, and explores the phenomenon of pilgrimage. Tune in to hear Maggie talk about being among the first cohort of women to be ordained by the Church of England and how art and culture shaped the way these revolutionary women went about their ministry.
As ever, hosts curator Helena Cox and Keeper Gary Brannan take you through an exciting array of themes raging from the sacred to the profane and everything in between!

This episode marked exactly a year since we started doing the podcast so we are overjoyed that we could have Maggie with us to celebrate, and we can’t wait for many more years of podcasting to come! 🩷 Huge thanks to all our faithful listeners from all across the globe!!🥰

I’m launching a new series of “Curator’s Diaries”, short stories / reflections inspired by artworks from the Uni of York art collection, and promoted by the joys (and sometimes mishaps) of being their curator! ✍️📖 ❤️

The reflections are written from a personal perspective, and I’m sharing them in the hope that the stories might encourage their readers to find a new perspective on the art on campus, and perhaps establish new connections between the artworks and visitors to campus, students and staff. The deep love I feel for our art collection simply could not be contained just in professional writing and giving talks, I really wanted to share this personal perspective too. I hope they will provide an uplifting view of how art can transform our lives. 💙

The stories will be gradually uploaded on Medium.com where anyone can access them for free. You can find the link in our bio.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this course! ❤️⭐️ Without exaggerating, it truly saved me last year, and St Leonard’s Hospice grief team and their fantastic counsellors are still an absolute lifeline for me. If you or anyone you know need help with grief, this is the BEST thing they can join! It not only helps during the course but also creates a community which will hold you through the rocky road ahead. We are incredibly lucky to have this amazing facility on our doorstep here in ! 🙏

Huge thanks to all who came to my mindfulness & art session tonight! ❤️ It’s been a rare and wonderful treat for me to give an online lecture and to lead a guided meditation centred on one of the paintings from our art collection in celebration of today’s World Mental Health Day. We had a pretty sizeable group, such a joy to have so many people joining in! Leading the meditation was a very deep and touching experience for me. Even if I could not see all the participants, I could definitely feel a sense of togetherness as we explored the chosen painting together with our eyes, hearts and all our senses, unleashing our imagination.
I’m also so glad that I could use the session to pay a tribute to the artist John Langton (1932-2025) whose works feature prominently in our collection, and which I very much admire.
I feel such gratitude that the attendees decided to ditch Friday evening out and instead spent it with me diving deep into an artwork through mindful slow looking. Days like this make me feel incredibly thankful for everyone who takes part in our exhibitions and events, and I’m so proud that our art collection connects so many people in such meaningful ways! ❤️

Huge thanks to for organising this event - hopefully the first of many!
